The area is bloody and looks a bit infected. What should I do? |

Have you already tried to pull it out? Try this page...
http://www.oes.org/page2/10529~My_puppy ... tment.html I'm a little surprised at the vet's approach, but I would guess it would take a while for the tick to pull its head out (especially if you've killed it already by yanking on it) |
Thanks that did help. It does look like the ones in the pic of the link the guy posted. But he didn't say what that means if the tick looks like that.
I haven't pulled on it for fear that I would miss the head. Plus, I am so grossed out by ticks. I just can't do it. I got the vaseline on it and about died. I'm heading out the door to pet smart. I wanted to try some downs and sits in a public place plus I need some stuff for Chiquita. But then I thought that the groomer may be able to help me for a small fee? What do you think? Uggh, why didn't the flea and tick medicine keep the tick off of her? Does flea and tick not stop ticks or just slow them down? |
oh now I see. It's green because it's engorged.
Petsmart said they will not remove a tick So...I either go to the vet or wait for my husband to get home. Once it's out...how do I clean the area? Should I put peroxide on the area? I've never had this happen to my cats. |
ok. Hubby got home and we held her down together and he pulled out the very engorged tick. I feel bad that it got so big on her. I can't believe we missed it.
Do we need to be concerned about infection if we are sure that we got the head of the tick? |
Where do you live that you have ticks this time of year? If you're in a warm climate, I'd get her on flea and tick preventative as soon as the vet will give it to you given her age. It's always easier to keep them away than having to actually deal with them! |
that's what I'm confused about. We have her on tick and flea medicine from the vet??? The only thing I wonder is with her growing so fast mabey the medicine isn't as effective because her weight isn't staying the same? Plus, it was a monthly dose and she was due on Monday But we had 10 inches of snow and I had to remake the appt. for Friday of this week.
Does flea and tick really keep them from getting NO ticks? Or does it just slow down how many ticks they come home with? |
It should pretty much keep them away but, if she gained enough weight and went over the amount for the dosage that she got, that could be it.
I didn't know ticks could even live in the cold like this. |
What kind of flea & tick medication are you using? I have used Frontline for over 12 years now & no fleas & no ticks. I apply it every other month May thru November. |
Found out today while at the vet that she only was on flea medicine. She now has flea and tick....we should be done with ticks |
