Oliver had entropion surgery on Friday. Turns out his entropion wasn't the culprit of the eye infections, he has a condition that causes eyelashes grow on the inside of his eyelid. He had 6 on his right eye and 2 on his left eye that had to be lasered off. Since his entropion wasn't as bad as they thought, we didn't have to do the tradional eye tuck, instead the vet chose to laser "X" on his lower eyelids. As the wounds heal, it will tighten the skin, and roll the eyelid outward. His left eye was worse than his right, so he has 2 "X" on his left and only 1 on his right. So far we are doing great. It was a simple procedure, and he did very well. Well, minus the anstecia (spelled wrong, sorry) side effects mixed with the 6 inches of snow we got on Saturday...a wet, gassy, constipated dog that is drugged is not fun... If you look closely you can see the "X". We apply a topical antibiotic 2 times a day for 2 weeks. The vet doesn't think it will scar. The hairs should not grow back, so this should be a 1 time thing. It was relatively inexpensive when you consider the cost of multiple eye infections. |

George is having entropion surgery tomorrow too!
The eye doies not look as bad as I thought it would mind you he is at the moment having the traditional eye tuck! Hope Oliver is back to himself soon. |
That doesn't look bad at all. I'm glad you were able to find a solution to keep him from having eye infections. Long term, it sounds like it will be a really good fix for all of you. Glad it went well. |
I was expecting much worse. Glad he's doing well.
Here's to no more eye infections. |
Glad it went okay. Hope he feels better soon. |
I'm glad he's doing well. When I heard eye surgery, I thought it would be much uglier but it looks like it'll heal nicely. |
It's not bad at all. I was really suprised myself. It is starting to scab over, but I think it will heal nicely. |
Good pictures. It looks like it is healing well. |
I agree it doesn't look as bad as I expected.
Give Oliver a hug from me. Wishing him a speedy recovery. |
Ditto... was expecting gross pics....
Looks like it will heal well... hopefully it works. |
PS Oliver will be sooo much happier, I was just thinking about you guys and thought "OMG, imagine having eyelashes stuck in your eyes all the time", it must have been horrible for the poor darling. |

I think he will be much happier as well. I didn't think much of the constant rubbing of eyes on my, on the couch, on the bed, with his feet...but now it makes sense. The rubbing has already decreased, and I'm sure it cease after the wounds heal. He is in a much better mood today. Off all pain meds. Friday and Saturday were horrible, he was my little cling-on. If I wasn't touching him he was crying. I felt so bad for him! |
Oh I feel really bad for you both, the poor baby, I get so upset when they're in pain.
So glad he's lots better even off the pain meds. |
It looks really good! So glad it wasn't as serious as the vet thought. Sending hugs for a speedy recovery! |
So glad you found the root of the problem and it seems that he'll be okay! Poor thing. Hope he recovers quickly!!! |
Very neat surgery, looks really good. Heal up quick sweetie and thanks for posting photos of his surgery, interesting, could you post some more in a couple of weeks just to see a comparison? Looks like it wont be at all noticeable when healed up, they did a great job with him.
