We are in our motel room - the Ely Motel. It is an older, but very nice and clean DOG friendly place. The races are tomorrow, and several of the teams with the big dog trucks are staying here too. We have our window and door cracked open. For some reason our room is really warm. The thermostat is all the way down, but it got to 78 in here last night! So, we are cooling off, as Chewie gets way too hot. He is alternating between the bathroom and entry floor tile. I can hear the dog teams out the window (there is a huge rig parked outside my window) and also out the door on the otherside in the lot. Chewie is just fascinated with all the sounds and activity. Our door has a screen door, an he sits there, just listening. We are going to watch the teams at the start line tomorrow - it is very fun, high adrenalin. This is a mid-distance race, with 6 dog teams and 8 dog teams. The 6's race from Ely to Tower (about 25 miles) and the 8's race from Ely to Tower and back to Ely. We also got some shopping in today. We went to the Steger Mukluk store, Patti, the wife of Will Steger, runs this business. I did a MAJOR splurge and bought a pair of these wonderful boots. We went to the Mushers banquet last night (to represent the pullers) and Patti was at our table - real nice person. We are havinga great weekend, even in the freezing cold. The Ely community is so welcoming and thrilled to have their dog sports back. The Wolftrack classic just restarted last winter after a long absence. The weight pull was only just resumed this year, and we had huge crowds watching. Chewie got 3rd place in his weight class, and got a cash prize and a bronze medal. Pictures will come later! |

Sounds like a lot of fun!
Congrats to Chewie, can't wait to see his bronze medal! |
That sounds awesome, I'm very jealous.
Give Chewie a congrats hug from us! |
Dawn, you sound like me when I stay in a motel with the dogs at a dog show! We have the best time. Just me & the dog(s). Most of my Non-dog-show friends think I'm a bit half-baked when I tell them what a good time we have. |
Congrats to Chewie! Dawn, it sounds like you are having a great time. I always enjoy watching my dogs respond to new situations.
I would say "Stay warm, but not too warm." |
Woohoo for Chewie.
Sounds like a great time. |
Sounds like a really fun weekend Dawn! Good luck to you & Chewie today! |
