How exciting!!! I was counting the days until it got here!!!! It came yesterday...BUT! they needed a signature, and didn't leave it. Ugh... Lo and behold...FedEx came back today (Saturday) with it!!! Who knew?! Ok...ditched Tony and the dogs, and went to my "quiet" place. (OH! So excited!). Read the instructions. Looked at the beautiful grey with pink trim laptop. Oh! Heaven! Oh! How beautiful! Oh, I'm glad I got the 17 inch, with the numeric keypad. How perfect. Moment of truth...plug it in....turn it on!!!!!!!! NOTHING! Absolutly NOTHING! (Grumble grumble). So I play with the cord, and the switches, and the battery, and even try another electrical outlet.....NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So...gulp....I call TECH SUPPORT.....EEK!!!!!!!!!!! After waiting for-evah....the guy (who is somewhere in India) wants me to get a screw driver and take the back off MY BRAND NEW COMPUTER!! HELL NO! That is NOT my job. And I (nicely) tell him so. I am not an IT person. I'm not monkey-ing with my new computer and voided the warranty. I WANT A NEW ONE. Bless his heart..he agrees with me!!! Wow! Not so easy...I had to talk to 7 (yes seven) other people and verify my name, my order number, my service tag number, my shipping address, and then be sent off to yet ANOTHER person in India!!!! EEEKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally was connected to a woman...I could NOT understand her...not her accent, but we had a muffled connection. By this time, I was outta patience and kindness, and handed her over to Tony. She immediately put him on hold, and he handed her back to me. When she came, she said, ok...we are sending you a replacement computer. It will take 5 - 7 business days. We are also sending you an approved returned label for the computer you have. So sorry. Have a lovely day..and kiss my tush! (Well, not exactly...but you get the tone of the call). So...after 83 minutes, and 8 people, I am getting a replacement computer, for a computer I never even turned on. Yes...I'm drinking scotch now...and taking deep breaths. Man, I hope this new computer will be worth it!!! Hmm....where are the brownies? |
|
Sorry, Deb......
I have heard a lot of people having problems with 'new' computers. So many of the 'new' programs not working with their "older" programs..Not being able to connect ... and yes...one of my friends had the SAME problem that you are having...The computer just would not turn on!!! She was soo angry..and frustrated!!! Fingers crossed that the 'new'...'NEW" computer you get next week will work beautifully!!!!!! It's Saturday...have another Scotch and another brownie...YOU deserve it!!!!!! |
Deb, you are lucky your problem was resolved so quick.. I bought a Dell laptop, top of the line, 19" monitor and when it arrived it didn't work, first they sent me a new h/d to install myself, that didn't work so then they said they would send me a new motherboard for me to install, I said no I want a new machine , well after a few weeks of almost daily calls to India and people I could not understand, (in the meantime I bought a small Acer and it was great) and fighting and arguing they agreed to send me a new one . I will never buy a Dell again |
jean! How crazy is this? Their computers are not cheap!!!! I just hope, when the new computer shows up, it will be fine. OH PLEASE LORD! LET IT BE FINE! |
Deb, so disappointing!!!! I used to have a Dell with onsite warranty, as it ran all my appts and accounts at work.
Same thing as you Deb, it died, I phoned they said get a screwdriver and look at the something or othery. I got as far as taking the darn thing apart and was confronted with all these wires and stuff and figured I'd probably get myself electrocuted rather than fix anything, cause they were asking me to unplug cables and replug etc. So at that point I said "Enough! I have ON SITE warranty, that means YOU come to me and fix the darn thing. So someone better get here in the promised time frame or I want my warranty money back." They came, they fixed it. I think they just try it on to try and save themselves time and money. I know my DH would have done what they asked but he LIKES that kind of stuff. GOOD LUCK. Hope you get a beautiful, new laptop in full working order real soon. |
We have 2 laptops, his and hers.
Both are HP. I would never order one by mail ect. But local and can return sameday. We did have a thing with Richards but got it resolved here by a dealer. So far all is well. Cross fingers since I said this LOL Add the fact Hubby is It customer support for business at ATT He can usually help with most BUT he says thr same as you, many calls are over seas and you can not understand them If I have a issue with anything and I can not understand them I ask to someone who is American and speakes english.!!!!!! I get so mad with this. then we wonder where are jobs are |
I have my second Dell laptop - they replaced the first after I had it 2 1/2 years and it developed problems. I talked with them so often and for so long that they flagged my account and I only talk to supervisors now. I promise that I never raised my voice or uttered a cuss word even though it took great selfcontrol on my part.
Harold is the guy who installed the new: motherboards (several) keypad (shh! riley was trying to type and popped off one of the keys) video card screen Harold got to know the dogs very well. And I knew they he went to church on Wednesday nights and wouldn't be able to come over then. They finally replaced the laptop and, knock on wood, this one has been great. I learned to backup all of my files weekly. We bought my three kids Dell laptops two years ago for school. They haven't had any problems. Good luck. I bet the second one is worth the wait. |
Deb,
I'm sorry this happened to you. I sent an e-mail complaint to the company that we order supplies from at work. I had to send something back and called and got someone from India and I could not for the life of me understand her. I had to keep asking her to repeat what she said. She got mad at me! I'm sorry but please speak english! Don't get me started on Dr's that get mad because you don't understand their form of english!! I've had to put them on hold and ask my co-worker if she can take the call and figure out what the heck they want. |
Let the company know.
I’ve had similar problems with electronics, and I complain to the company about it with a simple letter or phone call. I state that I am a customer, what I purchased, what was wrong and why it was not handled in an acceptable manner. Very short and sweet, just facts. Surprisingly most times they will reply. I also do the same with excellent service. notes saying why I appreciated good tech support or customer service. I don’t know if it does any good or not, but if it was my company and the customers were unhappy or happy, I’d want to know. |
Oh Deborah!
1st off, YAY! on the new computer! Second... I hope you pulled the little tab on the side that says "Pull here for 1st time use"... it allows the electrical connections to be made. (OK, just kidding.... sorta.) |

I take it the socket works that you plugged into? |

Yep. Absolutely. In fact, where the plug connects with the computer, there is blue light that lights up if power is working. And it was glowing, perfectly. After Ron's "tab" message, we unpacked the computer again, and ran through all the troubleshooting stuff...and still nothing, with the exception of random, periodic blinking of keyboard icons. But...boy, is it ever a beautiful computer!!!!!! I just wish it worked |

beautiful huh? awful expensive doorstop! Hope all goes well with the replacement! Ha ha...I am the enternal optimist! I think the replacement is coming today. I had a "tag" from fedex ground yesterday, requesting a signature. Funny thing...I told those idiots I talked to Saturday to have the replacement delivered to my work address. Some people just don't listen. I hope I have some happy news this evening! (And yes, its beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!) |

Paula, last time I bought a computer, I ordered it from Dell. It showed up 2 days later, and was perfect. I've never had a problem with it. So, naive me, I thought this would go the same way. I will never do that again! |
My new NEW computer just arrived at my office!!! AND IT WORKS!!!!!! IT ACTUALLY TURNS ON!!!!! I can't wait to get home and play with it! |
Great! You pulled out the little tab for first time use then! |
