The emphasis is on foudation work, i.e. how to get your OES off to a solid start of understanding how to properly perform the obstacles, including how to teach jumping skills as well as safe and reliable contact performances, how to teach and perform the various crosses in a timely and clear matter that your dog understands, and how to decide which crosses to use where (which will depend very much on the individual dog -no, there is no strict formula ) I've worked with Sue for a little over a year now. I wish I had met her when I first started agility (!!), but better late then never. I've learned much more from her in the past year than I learned over the past seven years prior to that put together. She has a wonderfully clear teaching style, an almost uncanny ability to read dogs, and, most importantly for an OES sponsored seminar - a solid sense of humor (that's to the benefit of us wacky handlers, not the dogs. Our dogs do just fine ) There are 12 working spots both days. Some very green dogs may only be ready to participate the first day, but I would encourage anyone in the general area who has an interest in doing agility with their OES to come watch (audit). And if your dog has some basic agility training you may want to consider a working spot on Saturday and auditing on Sunday to see where you should be going with your training. [Message to Simon's Mom/Pam - yes, Simon can handle both days. You can also bring Garfunkel. Some of what is covered the first day may be good for him] Anyway, for more information, see http://www.performanceoes.com/Agility_F ... minar.html Additional questions, PM me. I'm trying to reach as many OES people who may be interested as I can first before I open it up to all breeds. Hopefully we'll have a good OES turnout. It looks promising so far. Kristine |

We will be competing that weekend. Otherwise I would have considered the trip. It sounds like a great event. |

Well, geez! I didn't even think to consult with you on dates - figured you didn't want to travel just now. Wished I'd thought of it. Have fun at the trial! Kristine |
How far is Wisconsin from Atlanta?!?! |
hmmm... its a 13 hour drive. I like to limit car time to 10 hours or less as a rule. But, I'm considering this anyway. If I'm the only handler, would I register as one spot, or do Tonks and Luna each count as a spot? |

One handler, one spot, and you're allowed two dogs. In fact, I think a majority will have more than one. If you're working, it's a LOOOONG weekend. Easier on the dogs if you can split the working time between them. Since you're real green in terms of agility, but have solid basic training on your dogs, your best bet of getting the most out of it would be to do a working spot on Saturday and audit Sunday. A number of people will probably do this. Saturday is more intro stuff, Sunday is a bit beyond that. That said, and we'd be absolutely delighted if you came, contemplating that drive.... Wow. It's a haul. If it's for the "sheepdog" fellowship, I fully understand. It should be a fun weekend. If it's because you just really-really want to get into agility but aren't sure where to start, so you're willing to drive that far just to get a glimpse, though you'd rather not, maybe we can find somewhere close to home that offers excellent foundation training. Or am I completely out of the loop and you're taking agility classes with the girls already? Not to dissuade you from coming on up. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. Hard work! But fun people. we completed our first 6 week class today! So the girls and I have some experience; but I know we are sloppy. And I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to deal with some "problem" areas. And the next class being offered is a repeat of Agility 1, or an "Agility Playtime" which is just using the course as a playground.
Adam and I are already planning on building some of the equipment in the next few weeks. So the idea of this seminar is appealing, and its good timing for us. |

Adam and I are already planning on building some of the equipment in the next few weeks. So the idea of this seminar is appealing, and its good timing for us. Then come. Perfect timing in fact if you can stand the trip and take the time. You'd pick up some really good pointers on work you can do on your own that will put you way ahead of the game so to speak. Now, we're ALL sloppy in one way or another. And some of us have been doing this for years... Kristine |
I already responded elsewhere, but we will be there if I don't have to work.
Unfortunately I really only have Chewie to run. Simon is too old, but he would like it. I always maintained that if I had gotten him at a younger age (he was 6) he would have made an awesome agility basset. That is great you are probably coming, Allison! |
well we don't have any work that weekend; I just have to get Adam to agree. I'm hoping, really, that he agrees to let me come on my own. I think it would be alot of fun for the girls and I to have a "weekend away". Adam is doing the same a few weeks earlier, going to LA for "business" (yeah right) so I think I can say this is MY work away trip.
Just trying to decide how to do the travel. One long haul is preferable to me, but I'm wondering if the dogs can do it. And if so, will they be completely spazzed out once we get there, and then useless for learning anything. Sitting in a car for 13 hours may be more than they can handle. |
Oh my Gosh...I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOO THERE!!!!
I've got a REALLY, REALLY bad case of cabin fever and I need something to look forward to besides sheepiepalazzo, which is soooooo far away. Dawn and Allison...You have to come!! Can you tell I'm excited |
Just a reminder for those of you interested to reserve your spots. It's being opened up to all breeds on Monday, but I want to fill it with as many OES as want to come first since the seminar was organized for US.
If you don't think you can get the paperwork to me by Monday, PM me so I can put you on the list at least and then get it in as fast as possible. Checks will not be cashed until after the seminar closes in early April in any event. http://www.performanceoes.com/Agility_F ... minar.html for more details. Kristine |
Hey to all you who are coming.
I am Kristine's "food consultant". I am working on our lunch and snack menu for both days. Any food requests?? Or things to avoid? Also, beverage/pop requests? |
we are (sadly) going to have to pass on coming. With having just bought the house, and Sheepie palooza not that far off, I think its too much in too short a time frame.
I really wanted to come, too. |

I really wanted to come, too. But, I do understand. And I read your post about your shopping trip at the groomers expo - LOL Nice shopping! |

I really wanted to come, too. I was hoping you could make it but it sounded like a lot even before the new house and... There will be agility in St Louis. And maybe we can do something similar but more advanced next year...? You never know.... You'll be missed, but at least we'll see you in a few months! Kristine |
I enrolled the girls in something called "Agility Playtime". Its the same instructor as our first class, at the same location. Its just Tonks and Luna and two other dogs, and for an hour we work on the equipment and do mini-"runs" trying to get both our handling better and the dogs understanding of the commands improved. That will take us through March; so I'll have to find an Agility something to do in April, so we aren't rusty when Sheepie Palooza comes around! |
