I'm Emily from Louisiana. I'm currently a student at LSU. My boyfriend and his family just bought their third Old English Sheepdog, and it excites me. I joined so I can learn more about the breed, namely their GROOMING, as I've never been around a long-haired dog before. (We had Labs and Pugs, lol.) So....here is the little guy. He came with the name Oreo but we NEED name suggestions! I prefer something not as cutesy. We also have Zero the Schipperke. It's kinda hard to get a good picture of him as he's always moving, and he's soooo very black that he isn't photogenic all the time. But he's really cute. I also have my own rabbit, who doesn't live with the sheepdog, named Erik. Edited: Ugh, the links are being silly and not showing up, I will fix them so they show up on this page. I have some in my gallery. |

Hello From Colorado. |
Hello from a fellow Southerner in Atlanta!
Don't stick with Oreo. When I got my girls I wanted to name them Storm and Trooper. Get it? "Storm Trooper", like in the Star Wars bad guys in black and white armor? Only my boyfriend smartly pointed out that they won't stay black and white, but will become gray and white. And then the names won't really apply. We found that getting to know the dogs helped immensely in naming them. So I wouldn't worry if you don't have a name picked out before your pup comes home. And you can always just call it "adorable awesome best puppy ever!" Because I'm sure it will be! |

Thanks for such a warm welcome! We've decided on Strike for him. He's beginning to answer to it.
I thought I uploaded some pics to the album but apparently I didn't. Different forums work different ways so I'm attempting to figure them all out, lol. |
Welcome fro NE Pennsylvania! Strike is adorable! For future reference, once pictures are uploaded they have to be approved by an administrator. Happy to say that your pictures are there now. |

So I guess the name Bubba is out........
Several dogs here have city or regional names, like Denver. Is there something nearby that might work? Or a favorite city? Is there a cartoon character or similar that might work......Fozzie was(is) a sheepdog on another chat group. I've named dogs for cities from their original area: Basil (switzerland) for an St. Bernard. Or dogs names associated with the original area: Maudie the English Sheepdog, Clancy the Irish Wolfhound, Sonya the Siberian Husky. I've named dogs for movie tie-in: Shane ("come back Shane), "Stelllllla", and hey "Aaabbboooottt". Lately I've given them human names: Simone, Harry, Jack, Amy, Paige (actually "Society Paige" for her nature of crawling into other dogs' kennels), Samson. Or in one I used a feature on the animal: Fox for a fox-like face. Something will come that is perfect. |

Welcome from the land up north, Oslo in Norway! Your little oes so far named "Oreo" is very cute!!! |
Hehe I thought his name was Strike but people have been calling him Oreo, it's getting annoying, I want them to decide what his name is! I think Oreo is kind of silly for a male dog but ya know. That's just me. |

Sheepdogs are kind of silly, for dogs. So a silly name is probably just fine! |
but....Oreo is such a good fit with your pics of him! s'pose if you want a manly name you could call him any old name couldn't you? |
You could call him Orion, that is not silly for a maledog.
And your dog would hardly notice the difference. |
