Is it a puppy food? Usually you look at the weight the dog is going to be as an adult to choose the amount of kibble if I remember correctly. Although three cups sounds right for the adult food I used to use (Canidae), some foods its closer to four cups, and I can't remember how much WOlf cub we used to use - 40 pounds every month for two dogs roughly. Honestly if my puppy always seemed hungry I'd give him more to eat - but I am easy
It also may not be a high enough quality food to provide enough of what he needs. |
3 cups a day for a 9 week old seems like a lot to me.
It's been awhile since I had an OES little one, so maybe someone else will add in some info! congrats on your new puppy, BTW |
It sounds about right. |
yes its puppy food for a large breed dog...its expensive dog food so im hopfing its good...well i guess i am doing alright then eh? |
It sounds about right but I just let puppies eat til they are full.
If putting a cup of food out three times a day and it's always all eaten, I'd increase the morning and evening meal by half a cup and see if he is more satisfied then. |
Also large breed foods usually have lower calorie content, and lower vitamins etc so he might just not be getting enough of what he needs.
I never use large breed foods, but that's my preference. A large breed food can help prevent symptoms of HD but it doesn't prevent HD. They either have it or they don't and no food is miraculously going to cure it. All it does is keep their growth slower so as not to stress joints etc... normal growth isnèt a stress to normal joints tho. |
jsut an update that i was at the vet and he said to feed him an extra cup of food a day so an extra half cup in the morning and at dinner...for him to gain more weight...he is 11 weeks at 17 pounds and that he should be gaining more wight at the next shot... |
