Ouch - poor Duchess! Don't know about your area, but around here it is illegal to walk your dog off leash. She was lucky she was able to get the dogs to back off Duchess, or it could have been much worse! The owners ALWAYS say - my dog never did that before! |
jean wrote: When out for her walk today Dutch was bullied by two dogs , one bite her ear in a few places ( not bad) . The owner who was walking them off leash said that they had never done that before which didn't make Dutch or me feel any better I told the lady that if I seen them off leash again I would report her as I don't want my baby going through that again
Jean consider reporting it. Do you know if the dogs had the vaccines? What if it were children out there? This happened to my mother once and her dog. When she reported it, she found that the dogs who attacked her and her cocker were reproted three other times and they were finally cited. I am glad you were not hurt. |
I'm glad Dutch is ok but I also agree with Talmasca you should really report this incident if it happened once... it will most likely happen again and lead to more serious injuries being inflicted. |
The boys are sending kisses to Dutch and are glad she wasn't hurt more seriously. How scary for you all!

Poor Duchess.
Hope she is not too shaken. |
Grrrrrrrrr. |
Poor Dutchess, I hope that does not taint her sunny disposition and that she was not seriously hurt.
Big Big hugs to her from Murphy and Dudley. |
of course they have never done that before. Glad both of you are ok |
Dutch says thanks for the hugs, kisses and well wishes
This morning her ear was infected so off to the vet we went , they thought at first she had an ear infection because they didn't think it would get that severe over nite but after checking her ear further they agreed with me she did not have an infected ear canal. so she has had her ear shaved, been poked, prodded and is on medicated ointment, medicated soap, antibiotics and pain meds. they also said that she was a beautiful girl with a beautiful personality  but then I knew that Her ear had 3 bite marks none needing stiches thank goodness |
Well that stinks she had to be bit ...followed up by the next day poked and prodded ...BUT thank GOODNESS it wasn't worse!! I always say this but I swear I freak out whenever I see unleashed animals ...or heck, animals leashed coming up to our dog.
I hope you never see that lady there again w/her dogs loose!!!!!!!!!!! Big hugs to Duchess! |
I'm really glad it wasn't worse but it stinks to have your sweet sheepie mauled while out on a walk. |
That is why I don't walk my dogs here without a group of us...at least 3 people.
My neighborhood is full of loose pit bulls and chows. I am seriously afraid to walk Bella with that around. She doesn't get along with anyone but Nigel. So sorry that happened to you and Duchess. |
That really bites! (Pun intended)
Poor Dutch, she is such a good girl. My daughter in Poughkeepsie has aggresive dogs in her neighborhood. She has been threatened while walking her Spike Lee - who is a 6 pound Min Pin. I don't think his impressive name will scare the big, mean dogs away. |
I am so sorry. Please give Duchess a gentle hug from us! |
Tonks and Luna have off-leash training, and I still would not walk them around our neighborhood off-leash. All it takes is one squirrel, and all that training can vanish.
I'm so sorry Dutchess had to go through that! Hate to say it, but I'd report them too. If they cannot be trusted to 100% obedience while off leash, then they shouldn't be off leash. End of story. |
Jean, take a picture of Duchess' injured ear just in case you need to turn the attack dog into the authorities. I am so sorry she had to go through this - and, for argument sake, lets say the "but my dog has never done that before..." is true, the woman should have given you her name and phone number in case Duchess was seriously hurt. This is Sheepie2, can't log in. |
If its not an off lead area then they shouldnt be off lead! - simple.
If its an offlead area then you know what the situation is and can be more vigilant and all the dog's are on an equal footing. Your dog is at a disadvantage because its on lead and they're not. And as others have said you never know. Sometimes dogs can just take a dislike to each other. To give her the benefit of the doubt it may have been the first time but that's the point, there's always a first time. |
Thanks all, the lady paid me for the vet visit and seemed really upset about it all. I did warn her that if I seen the dogs running loose I would report her. Her sister moved to Holland and left the dog that did the damage with her .
there is not leash law here in the countryside but there is a "under control law" that has a stiff fine if your dog is not under your control and this situation would apply as to being NOT under control, don't know how much good that does because you really don't know untill after the fact |
Willoughby was shocked to hear about Duchess! He's had one or two close calls himself when we have been walking in a large open off leash park. He's always on a leash and there have been pit bull crosses and other agressive dogs loose.
for the biter! for the bitee! |
