1/4 cup finely chopped onion 1 cup ketchup 1 cup tomato sauce 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese 4 teaspoons garlic powder,divided or equal amounts of fresh garlic 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning 1/2 teaspoon fennel seed Salt and pepper 1/2 cup butter, softened 2 loaves crusty Italian bread, halved lengthwise 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook beef and onion until beef is well done . Add ketchup, parmesan cheese , 3 teaspoons garlic ,oregano, italian seasoning and fennel and simmer , uncovered for 20 minutes or until mixture has thickened. In a small bowl combine butter and the remaining 1 teaspoon garlic powder and spread over the top halves of the bread. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese over the bottom half of the breads. Spoon meat mixture on top of the cheese and then top with the remaining mozzarella cheese. Place bread tops to make the sandwiches and then wrap each one in foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Cut and serve . |

You could get more meat into it if you first dig out a trench of bread on both sides Looks like an ideal for a weekend meal; lunch or dinner. yum! |
Definitely a sat meal for us. Similar to the one I use but I don't use the same bread. I'll have to try it your way b/c I'm sure it's good. Yum.... pizza stuff is what I've been craving now!!! |
