Going to look at a litter

Hi
We have finally decided to get an OES...we currently have a wheaten and want another dog that is good with children.. I have been doing a great deal of research and know the basic ups and downs (not many :)) of owning aoes. But I was wondering if anyone had any good "TIPS" on looking at the pups....I want a female and there are three. Any hep would be greatly appreciated. Also, we will be traveling about 5 hours...any advice about when we bring her home how to mak it easier?

I'm sure lots of members will jump in with advice over the next couple of days.

Welcome to the forum!
Firstly any pupper coming home make sure it is over 8 weeks of age, any breeder that lets a puppy go before that then steer clear of.

If sighting the litter, look at mom and how she interacts with the puppies, how is moms temperament? Look at the puppies and choose one that is not shy more an outgoing personality  Ask also to see the certificates on health clearances of the dam and sire while you are there(that is the Hips/elbows and eye screening clearances have been done at a bare minumum also thyroid & Baer testing would be even better), if at all possible sight the sire of the litter too to see what his temperament is like, sometimes not possible to see the dad of the litter but make sure mom is OK with her temperament. If nothing available as far as documentation on Health is concerned then look elsewhere for an OES.

Puppies should have nice sparkling clean clear eyes with no discharge, nice little tubby bellies on them, fur should be quite glossie and no nasal discharges either. The area the puppies are kept in should be spotless and if you can spend awhile watching & observing them then do. Also if from a reputable breeder then also let them help with advice on which one would best suit your family.

Best wishes in your search for a sheepie girl. :D
Lisa, If I ever try and get a pup you have to come with me LOL

This is super advise al I would add is that I always check the water bowl to see if it has any tell tale signs, if possible run your finger along the bottom inside of the bowl to check that it is washed regularly when changing the water. Some breeders tidy up and everything is nice and clean when puppy buyers visit but the water bowl is mostly forgotten.
Ahhh the "water bowl" check kind of like the white glove run the finger over the top of the door frame check. I like it!!
