I have a 14 month old OES who is still very playful. When we go outside into the yard...he loves to run in circles and jump around quite a bit. Recently I moved nearby to my brother who has a 4 year old little girl. Today she wanted to play with the puppy in the backyard but Shelby (that's my OES) did his usual run around in circles bit and decided that running RIGHT in front of her on each "lap" was the best course of action. Of course since he is a little bit clumsy, WHAM he took her out not once, but twice. This of course leads to the girl getting knocked down and tears which is no good. I don't want to discourage him from playing, but is there any way to teach him that running full speed right next to people isn't a good idea? The girl isn't running around or anything, she was just standing there and he gets too close and runs right into her on some laps. I don't have kids myself, so he doesn't get to see them too often and I'm not sure what the best thing to do is. (For now, it is simply not letting the two play in the backyard at the same time). Thanks! |

Can you take him out alone and let him get some of the running out of his system before the little one comes over? If he can expend some energy, it might be easier for him to be a bit calmer around the kid. |
