Valentines dinner, what do you think?

Talking to Cody, figured I would introduce so I dont have to call her that lady/girl/female I met), we decided to cook dinner and hang out instead of going and spending a bunch of money. I mentioned going out to eat, her first thought...what should I wear, oh my god I got to get new outfit, classic line... I dont have anything to wear blah blah.

I was thinking about Pork chops with Apple Chutney (have recipe) cooked in crock pot, with sweet potatoes, and a salad?

Sounds wonderful! How lucky she is! :)

Don't forget something with red berries, red sauce, OR chocolate for dessert!!! :)
Sounds good! Try and think of these, Flowers, and deseart. AND a card.
Maybe candles? Don't know how close you are.
Maybe a app. before the meal
.
Bruschetta
12 slices Italian bread, 1/2 inch thick
1/4 cup olive or vegetable oil
2 medium tomatoes, chopped (1 1/2 cups)
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves
2 tablespoons small capers, drained
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

1. Heat oven to 375ºF.
2. Place bread slices on ungreased cookie sheet. Drizzle 1 teaspoon oil on each slice bread. Bake about 8 minutes or until golden brown.
3. While bread is toasting, mix remaining ingredients. Spoon tomato mixture onto bread slices. Serve at room temperature
Theme: Romance.

Pan seared, heart-shaped medallions of lamb served with Greek olive oil and feta cheese, reminiscent of Helen of Troy. Pounding the lamb might be very difficult - I've never done it. Alternatively veal might work, or you could serve the lamb as chops

Julienned veggies for Juliet with a sprinkle of grated Romano cheese for Romeo. 8)

Hearts of Romaine lettuce for Romeo.

Red Velvet Chocolate cake for dessert.
^^^

You would so get some dessert with a menu like that. That would definitely put me in the mood for a nice evening.
Sounds yummy.
I would make sure she (Cody - not the girl.....LOL) likes sweet potatoes - that is a tricky one to guess if people like or not.

I would vote for a dessert too.
Definitly dessert, something chocolate. Buy a cake or gourmet cupcakes. Actually, dessert is all you need on Valentine's Day. I'm sure Cody will appreciate whatever you make for dinner. It's such a thoughtful gesture and much nicer than going out.
sounds perfect. and the crockpot is a great choice becasue you don't have to fuss.

add something to drink and maybe some chocolates for desert and you are sll set!
I will do an app, dessert, and drink just didn't mention it. Ron sounds good maybe I'll make the chops heart shaped. Have hearts of romaine lettuce. As for baking a cake... baking is hard to do, takes lots of practice to bake in elevation 7500ft. So will buy something and could add heart shaped strawberries for presentation. Already asked the sweet potato question, she said she likes. Only down fall she and wine do not get along and I love wine...so I will go another route. Oh yeah the flowers, card, candles thought of as well.

So much for saving money...It will be fun so that makes it worth it. Wish I would have thought of this yesterday when I went at the grocery store. Need to make a list and take it with me into the store. Usually forget at home or leave in truck.
Sounds good! My only concern with with sweet potatoes is that there is already apple chutney on the pork so maybe it'd be too sweet a meal?

What a lucky girl. I should have you email my husband and tell him that cooking for his lady love is a good thing...
How sweet Shon. Remember that no man is sexier then when he is cooking/baking in the kitchen. (or running a vacuum, washing floors you get the idea. lol) Have a great time! :hearts:
Does like wine?? Throw her back!! No actually she might be sensitive to sulfides. Maybe a nice fruit for drinks.......pomegranate juice and something.

Absolutely right about high altitude baking!

Chocolate fondue with fresh fruit and pound cake, "nobody doesn't like Sara Lee",

honey & balsamic vinegar over strawberries,

bananas foster ....hm, not pink,

or: take a pound cake, cut so you can stack in in 2 or 3 layers, spread lemon curd between the layers plus fresh raspberries. Frost with whipped cream sweetened with powdered sugar and if she can take Grand Marnier, add a bit to the whipped cream during beating. Very elegant and super easy.
Shon....my grocery store, and most others, sell this little round cardboard container of chocolate chips that you put in the microwave, and then dip fresh strawberries in it to make chocolate covered strawberries. Very romantic, very sexy, and very easy!!! Just lay them on a pretty plate, and feed them to each other! WOO HOO

hmmm..... that could be fun!
You sure have a lot of good advice there. I agree the chocolate is a must, strawberries are my absolute fave, it's lucky we live in different continents otherwise I would be gatecrashing

Enjoy your evening!
OK this is the day......
LETS SEE WHAT YOU DID AND HOW IT TURNED OUT
PLEASE DINNER ONLY LOL!!!!!!!!
8O 8O 8O 8O Yes, dinner only !

I've taken your menu, hope you don't mind. Pork chops in apples, hubby insists on asparagus (with apples?) and rice pilaf (his fav). Maybe a salad w/ raspberries. Dessert will be the pound cake/lemon/raspberries. Pound cake cut into 1/3's and then cut each horizontally then stacking into 2 cakes 3 layers high is perfect. Whipped cream icing w/ GranMariner (which I suspect I'll also sprinkle on the cake before stacking. No lemon curd......not on this end of town. Made lemon filling (like for pie) instead. It's chilling. Local Zinfandel to which I'll add a little bubbly........since I wasn't going across town to Trader Joe's for the sparkling zin.

And what did I get for Valentine's Day? A card and 4 bars of sugar free chocolate
We've passed on a fancy in home dinner, and opted for a heartshaped pizza!!!

I'M SO EXCITED!!! I never eat pizza!
Pizza was last night. I'm getting too old for jalepenos.

Pork chops delightful. Rice OK, cake should be just 2 layers. I would prefer a berry sauce with it instead of whipped cream, lemon curd not lemon meringue goop. Reisling with champagne, curious combo. Not bad. I dislike skinny asparagus, give me the thick pencils and let me cook them properly. Now I need a nap. Hubby doing dishes.
How'd it go Shon? What did you wind up having for dinner? How'd it go over?
Hopefully she still there. I know I like to sleep after a good meal.
The whole evening went well, even Obe was good...as a sheepie can be. We had a salad, Romaine hearts, with cranberries and feta cheese, sweet potatoes, pork chops with apple chutney, (very good will post recipe)and chocolate truffle rolls for dessert with whip cream and strawberries.

She and Obe are still asleep, I'm having coffee watching the sunrise. Thanks for all the advice and recommendations. She enjoyed and said the food was great and I would have to agree.

Sounds like a perfect evening! I'm so glad everything went well. I do have one question, Shon...does she know you have an army of women coaching you?
Way to go! I've always thought women who sleep over ...and then sleep longer than the guy... are ones who really like you ;)
