Watching it one minute- all is well. Next minute, no picture, no sound. Checked cables and all that stuff... Customer Service isn't available on Sundays. Any idea what may be wrong???? It is only 2 and a half years old.... |

Oh that bites. Some simple suggestions you've probably already tried:
Make sure it is plugged in and the plug is working. Is the plug tied to a wall switch? Make sure that it is on the appropriate input, and not a video input that you aren't using, for example. It could be an internal fuse or diode, which would be relatively easy to fix, were it not in a 50 inch TV... Here's a link to the owner's manual, just in case you don't have one. I think it has a troubleshooting guide: http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/tacpassets- ... 6_om_e.pdf I hope you can figure it out or if you need help I hope the service call is an easy one. |
Ours did that.
It was dead. It was older though, about 7or 8. |
Do you have cable? May need to reboot. This happened to us after a power outage. |

Yes we have cable, and that was our first thought too. We went through all of the cables, had the satelite company on the phone for what seemed like HOURS , and determined it must be the TV. Toshiba cutomer service wasn't open, so, we will call them tonight... most likey it is a service call. That alone will be $150. Seems like a lot of hassle for a TV that isn't even 3 years old. Ron- Thanks for the link and the guide. I appreciate it!! Do you make house calls to fix things too??? <please> |
Hope it's sorted out withhout too much expense... this is a good example of why extended warranties are a good idea. |
My mom just had her TV break recently. Only a couple of years old. No picture or sound only beeping sounds when they turned it on. Took it to TV repairman & they say it's the relay which costs about $40 to fix. |

I'm hoping for this option!!! It went to the shop tonight... I'll keep you posted <ugh> |
This will sound totally crazy, but unplug the TV from the wall. Leave it for at least 15 minutes before plugging it back in. While you are waiting the 15 minutes, try plugging something else in the socket to check for power (lamp, clock).
My mother called me with the same problem. I had her do the above and her TV is now fine (that was a few months ago). Something has to reset and it takes that long. We also had a TV that had a vacatin button on it. You would turn it off there when you left. It shut off all of the power to the set - no electricity usage at all. My husband forgot to turn it back on a couple of times - he just thought he was going to get a new TV. |

It does sound crazy but that brought my Sony 42 inch LCD back to life a few months ago. Unfortunately, I had arranged for a tv repair guy to come to fix it and that was all he actually did. |

Oh my soul! If that is all the problem is Iwill be happy. Of course, I wish I had seen this before it went to the shop... |
Well- two weeks and $380 dollars later , we have our Plasma TV back...
It was the power supply and the repairman says he has seen this several times on the Toshiba model that we have-- so beware. I thought I researched this purchase pretty well before I bought it for John's 50th BD present. From here on-- all of the electronics buying will be John's baby.... and I will stick to picking out wallpaper and decorating |
$400 for a power supply..... sheeeeeesh. It's like the car repair shop -- no matter what you need you don't get out for less than $300. Maybe it's $400 now. |

Yep--- I about dropped over when he called and told me how much... |
They price components to encourage you to buy a newer model.
Make sure you keep your repair bill and ask the repair guy how long the warranty is on the replaced part. It maybe worth contacting Toshiba to see if the power supply is upgraded from the original faulty units, and ask them, if not, then why not? Oh top tip, make sure you vacuum out the dust from all the grills and fans at the back, weekly if possible |
