I already mopped it up and used paper towels until I couldn't see liquid on them anymore and then used 2 different cleaners, one animal-specific and one a general stain remover and followed those instructions. Anything else I need to be doing? |

I love Spot Shot.... gets any stain out. |
I used the Spot Shot. Luckily we just picked up a new can the other day |
do you have a rug docter or hoover steam vac?
The pee gets into the pad and spreads. I put mineral water on after i have sopped up all the pee i can, then get the steam vac out and use HOT water. I pour the mineral water on the floor around a big circle inwards where he pee'd and then start sucking up all the water i can................ good luck |
I use White Lightening, which you can pick up at Lowes or Home Depot and then for the stain I spray Hydrogen Proxide. They both do a great job.
Good luck |
you can also do 50% vinegar and 50% water penetrate deep down use lots. dry.You can use fan or suck up with wet vac. (vinegar gets rid of smell) Then use lots of baking soda and then drizzle 1/4 cup of hydrogen 3% peroxide(kills bacteria) AND 1 teaspoon dish soap . Scrub and dissolve baking soda and work in carpet let dry and vacuum. |
You're getting lots of good cleaning tips here, Steph. We'll need to make this a sticky when we're finished. |
Odo Ban!!!!!!
They sell it all Sams Club and Wal Mart and I swear by it! I have a few multi dog owners that have caught on to my Odo Ban craze! It is an awesome odor control and fights stains. If you can get to Sams Club they sell it by the gallon which is a concentrate. For tough odors I pour it on the spot right from the gallon! |
I used to use Natures Miracle but Odor ban seems to work best for us.. and it actually smells pleasant!
Off the point, London's on steroids (just started) too- how did Barney act when he first started? London has been panting a lot and acts as if he is hot all the time in the cold weather. He seems quiet too |
I also use odor ban. I t great and I use to use it just to wash floors.
It is made for just what you described. SAMS CLUB !!! |
I sponge up all I can get until you can't see wet anymore, then put some straight vinegar on the spot and place a section of newspaper on the spot and a brick or something heavy and it draws the rest of it up and kills the smell. When I moved last year Patch broke in the new carpet just to let me know she is the boss in this house too - I was both angry and shocked but she was so afraid I was leaving her at this new place. She loves her house and yard now. |
Putting a damp towel on it and letting it dry will also help draw the stain out.
My best recommendation is the Bissell Little Green Clean Machine, though. It works great and it's small and easy to use. With the baby around, you'll get a lot of use out of it later! |
A one minute pee may have been too much for the carpet and it got into the pad below. Take a carpet knife and cut out the pee spot.......3 side cut, leave the fourth attached like a hinge. Examine that pad! If it got soaked too you may need to cut it out and replace it with another piece cut from some hidden area........think closet. While the pad it up, check the under floor. It may need cleaning as well! Too often people ignore this and the wood underneath soaks up the smell and the animal will come back to the same good spot no matter the cleaning. Cat pee is the worst.....and often must be sealed by painting the subfloor with an encapsulting product before putting down new padding and replacing the carpet..........which you have seen on the back to tell your cleaning efforts. The carpet flap will be fine if reset with doublesided carpet tape.
Actually with pee, if caught fast, blotting until almost completely up, use plain water or club soda to remoisten and pull up the rest. Soap can set stains, so be careful. First step is blotting, blotting, blotting then treating any remaining problem. Now if for some reason the stain won't come out........remember cutting a patch pad...........cut a patch carpet and put the new patch in the old spot and the stained piece in the closet. |
Thanks everyone! I think (hope!) that I cleaned it up well enough. I'm horrible at getting stains out...that's hubby's department, but leave it to Barns to do it while we're home alone...
I wasn't really worried about it leaving a stain, more of the pad underneath getting wet and not getting cleaned up enough and having it smell. So I hope I got it up. Where's my ShamWow when I need it! Susan...we only have our family room carpeted downstairs, so no hidden closet carpet to use! And it's in a pretty major spot, so I think I'll wait to see what happens before slicing into the carpet! Laural--when Barney is on steroids he's quieter too, and he pants a lot too, and drinks a ton of water (and pees more!). Those really seem to be the only things I've noticed with him. He's a fairly quiet/mellow dog to begin with, so it's he's hard to notice major changes in. |
If you need a patch, think under sofa......but then you can't rearrange your room! |

Hmmm, our house is only a year old, so I think I might just call the construction people and get sample of carpet! |
dye lot won't be the same unless they bought a boat load, not reordering. |
