At this point, we are wanting to foster another OES (I think we are on the list with the local rescue to be evaluated to foster) and not give one a fur-ever home, but what does one do when they see these postings? Do they contact the person with the dog on their own? Do they contact the local rescue and have them proceed? Do they post them on here? |

Really ?
I usually surf through too. I looked again this morning in all the MN cities listed with craiglists and didn't find any. Where did you see them? Curious! |
In the Rochester area. There were 2 separate listings. |
I think this is handled differently by the different rescue groups. some will try to get any dog listed anywhere into rescue - others are more selective in working with dogs who really need homes, those that are in danger of being killed and weeding out the BYB using these listings to sell dogs.
I for one don't really think everydog listed on craigslist is in danger - many will find happy homes through that venue, and my personal experience is that not everydog in a local humane society needs rescue to intervene either. My first OES came through the humane society and honestly if I was looking to adopt a dog they would get my first phone call as well. I also don't think we want to list every craigslist dog on this forum. |

I wasn't even in the correct state! LOL - that's Ok. I'll go take a peek. As far as rescues, I can't speak for how Nancy and MNOESR deal with ads and graigslist. With our basset rescue, volunteers do call and tell them about the rescue, and give them the intake info. That way, if they get to a point where they have no options, the dog can come into rescue and be safe. |
MANY craigslist listings are from breeders trying to sell their dogs inexpensively, posing as someone in dire circumstances needing to rehome a puppy for an "adoption fee" of only a couple hundred bucks.
Don't pay any money to "adopt" a dog from craigslist, unless it's a verifiable legit rescue organization. |
I just wanted to put a plug in for craig's list. I was just looking around one day and saw an sheepie listed for adoption. She was 8 months old and was free. We have one sheltie and had lost our other sheltie 9 mos. earlier and my daughter was begging for another dog. Our vet bills (trying to save our other sheltie) were outragous. We went to look at "Lady" and just had to take her home with us. She was tied up in the yard with no protection from the elements. The owner had several other dogs running free. Lady was tied up because she could jump the fence. The owner knew he couldn't take care of her and listed her on craig's list. We love Lady!!!!!!!!! We are also learning alot about her and the breed. I'm sure you will see many post by me b/c Lady has never been trained to do anything and we are trying hard. My plug is just this..... I would not reccommend anyone placing a dog on the list for free, but we have a new wonderful member of our family because of someone else desperate to find a home for a sheepie did so. |
