While Morgan was in for his X Rays and surgery Wednesday I asked the vet about the cost of the titre. since he didn't know (he knew prices had of course gone up) he was to get back to me when I picked Morg up. When I got back two things happened 1) I found out the price for the full panel was now $80 (lab only) 2) the vet offered to charge me $60 since he said he worked out a deal with the lab because their new price list hadn't been delivered. Since he had already drawn the blood, I agreed. The results came back yesterday - everything is fine and Morgan needs no inoculations. Now Morgan hasn't had any inoculations (other than Lyme) in two years. Since he is already Lyme positive (vaccine is not 100%) I am not sure we will vaccinate for that this year. The vaccines would have been cheaper, but I assume we are heading off some additional potential problems down the road (including with this dog the very real possibility that we will have to do surgery after a shot to remove or drain a cyst). Anyway so for those who wanted to know a comparable cost - that's what I found out. |

For me it's not about the cost, it's just about not giving my dogs anything that's not necessary because of the risks and side effects.
Titres however are not always reliable either, a high titre level for any given disease could mean the dog is well immunized or that it has been exposed and is carrying the disease. |

Kristine My impression was it was the four or five in one - disptemper, parvo etc. but I do have that question in to him- I didn't see the result just got a phone call. I plan on picking it up tomorrow though. I wonder about lepto? edited: distemper and parvo only. I still plan on picking it up tomorrow for th efiles. |

This link takes one to the Dr. Jean Dodds Hemopet location where one can always have their vet send bloodwork. It has a link that lists all their test descriptions - which titres they do, and what other bloodwork they do. Dr. Dodds almost always reviews everything herself and if there are any concerns - she personally calls the owner. The owner can be copied directly on the bloodwork results or rely upon the vet sharing the information with them. Hemopet has a very fast turn-around time - most often has beat anything local in my particular area and often has been less expensive despite having to pay the vet tech to take blood, ship the blood and do the tests. Just another options. Judy |
