I'll be in NYC this weekend and leaving the day before Westminster. |

good planning are you going to check out the akc open house? |
Extra credit for anyone who takes a picture (no photoshopping!!!) of something oes.org related (Logo or hand lettered sign or anything) in front of or during Westminster! |
I'm going. I believe OES are at 12p in ring 3.

Kathie yes they are |
Is it being shown live or is this one of those shows that is broadcast months later? |

It was a super cheap airfare with specific dates so I just took 'em as is. When and where is the open house? I'm really PO'd at the AKC right now so until they make me happy again, I don't know that I'll want to attend but my problems may be resolved by then.[/i] |

I saw it mentioned in the gazette - the info is probably on the website. staying anywhere good? |

Groups are broadcast live. The herding group is usually Tuesday night and whichever OES wins the breed (goes "Best in Breed") advances to the herding group to compete there. That's usually the only OES you'll see on TV. The past few years I've watched breed judging online (on the westminster kennel club website). It's taped, not live, but they put it online typically within an hour or two of judging if I recall correctly. I usually call someone before then to find out who won, but it's still fun to watch. I have a friend that lives on the upper west side and we stay with her. Since we spend nothing on accommodations, all the extra money we save is for shopping and fun stuff! |
They have changed the herding gorup to Monday night this year. Breed is judged on Monday earlier in the day. |
Really? Herding group is on Monday? I will have to be sure to set my DVR so I don't miss it. I would've been looking for it on Tuesday since it's usually last. |

Thanks! This is going to be a very unsettled day at work for me....waiting to hear how we did. |
Sorry, but I have to root for Jazz's daddy |
Well I'm rooting for Pippin (Owen's uncle) and Scooter (Owen's first cousin). I keep checking back to see if they posted anything on the Westminster site yet. What time is breed judging again? |

12 noon but the German Shepards are ahead of the OES. So it will will run a bit later. |
ANY SECOND NOW.... *tapping feet*
I keep hitting refresh. Germans are done. |
ditto |
They are always late getting into the ring. You would have been better off having Kerry make a phone call to someone with the results...
I like Arlene P's Dunkin' a lot, but he is very young... |
BOB was Lambluv's Daydream Believer, Winston, Marley's brother. Which may explain why Kerry got so excited she dialed my number by mistake - she was trying to call her husband
Don't know any other results yet. Kristine |
All the breed results are posted now

YAY Winston Can you tell I am excited |
Really slow on the video this year.... grrrr.... |
Why were the two Terriers excused this evening? I missed most of what was said - a conflict?
And Winston was just on! Looking good! |
Mom of 3 wrote: Why were the two Terriers excused this evening? I missed most of what was said - a conflict?
And Winston was just on! Looking good! Because Ernesto Lara & Leonardo Garcini are considered part of the 'Green Team' and were mentored by Peter Green (the judge). Ernesto & Leonardo work & kennel the dogs they show at Peter's residence, so it was a big conflict of interest. I was wondering how they were going to handle that aspect with Peter judging. I think it was very well done & respectful. Ernesto & Leonardo knew all along that they would not be able to show to him, so it was not a surprise that they were dismissed. Peter Green is considered terrier royalty and did an outstanding job judging. So many judges should take note. |
Peter Green was having a wonderful time judging the dogs. I couldn't help but smile at the way he worked with the dogs.
Thank you for explaining why they were excused. I thought it was handled well - but my husband was talking and I missed the explainations. |

They barely mentioned why they were excused. I'm sure it left a lot of people wondering. I believe David said that Ernesto & Peter knew each other, but I don't think he mentioned anything else when Leonardo was excused. Just that it was an honor to win best of breed at Westminster and that the handlers were allowed to respectfully circle their dogs around the group ring. Ernesto & Leonardo handle for us so I am familiar with the arrangement. |
Watched this evening. Being new to the OES world, I was waiting patiently for the OES. First year being excited watching. Winston got 4th cool huh? I would love to go to NYC this time of year. Going shopping tommorrow for a grooming table, never will have a show dog, but excited to try to make her look just as gorgeous! |
YAY Winston Congrats you handsome boy!!!!
I loved watching Peter Green judge. He wanted to bring the best out in all the dogs. And kudos for his integrity. It still would suck to make it that far and then be excused. It was a great show, I was routing for both wolf hounds and the scotty. I thought the scotty was absolutely gorgeous. I didnt really have a favorite in the non sporting. |
so does anyone know why only three - yes three - german shepards were in the breed ring? Only 8 were entered. there really has to be a story here. |

There could be any number of reasons. I know that WKC does a random draw of entries recieved. Perhaps only 3 additional Shepards were drawn after including the 5 invites? My other guess is that politics could have been involved, afterall it's a dog show. But only 8 entered...I do find that strange. There were 40 something French Bulldogs for crying out loud....which leads me to believe it had something to do with the random draw...or maybe there was a specialty somewhere this past weekend? |
Yeah there were 24 Rhodesian ridgebacks in the adjacent ring - just looked odd. |
Who the heck would go to any other show though if they could go to Westminster?! |
There are never many GSD's at this show I really wonder why?? I have no clue how to find out.... |
thanks Cindy - I never noticed before there being so few. SOmeone suggested a GSD show list would know - just don't know anyon on such a critter. |
Hi,
Haven't been here in ages, but wanted to see if any one was "related" to Westminster dogs. In reply to the number in each breed, this year was the first year that the entries did not exceed the 2500. Every entry received got in to the show (as long as it was a CH). No lottery this year.... sign of the times. The total entry was higher than 2500 because it included the Junior Showmanship entries. Congrats to everyone who showed. The line up was great. Jo-Ann |
