Gordon has landed!

Our new kitty, Gordon arrived Saturday. OY! What a day! He spend most of it in the ceiling of our family room! I think he was a little freaked out. Tony was heartbroken. He's never had a cat from home arrival, and I think he expected it to be more like a dog, hanging with him immediately.

After 5 hours, the dogs located Gordon's ceiling location, and Tony got him out.

He has the sweetest face!

He spent Sat. night in Pirate's huge crate, with his bed, kitty pan, food and several toys. Tony kept getting up all night to check on him. Around 3, Tony brought him to bed, but Gordon didn't stay. I finally convinced Tony to just let Gordon roam.

Sunday, Tony fixed the closet in the basement, where Gordon had gotten access to the ceiling. And we just let him roam. He stayed pretty much in the same place all day. A shelf in bookcase. He came out a bit to check us all out. He is definately nocturnal!

The dogs have been great with him. Especially Pirate, who has already "kissed" him several time.

This morning, Gordon came into the kitchen, on his own, to greet everyone, and then wandered back down into the family room

He is definately Tony's cat. I can't get over how much affection Tony has for him. My rough, tough husband is a softy!

I have some pics to upload. He is gorgeous.

More "tails" to follow!

Welcome home Gordon. I can understand Tony being upset that Gordon didn't hang out. I've finally figured out that cats don't act like dogs (which is why I don't have a cat!).

Funny how a cat can melt a curmudgeon's heart!
Welcome Gordon.. I can't wait to see pictures of him.
I am glad that Gordon has finally found his way home. They are so funny...up in the ceiling of the Family Room. lol My Aussies are great cat hunters...if I ever want to know where Pearls is I just ask them to find her and off they go....Violet, on the other hand, could careless.

Once or twice Pearl has gone out into the backyard through the doggy door and china will come in to get me and take me right to the place Pearl is so I can bring her back in. lol China keeps Pearl under close surveillance.

Good luck with Gorden. I am sure he will have many adventures in his future.

Marianne will be happy to know that my sister, Mary, adopted a black kitten, who was the runt of a little of stray cats, this weekend. No one else wanted him, so she took him....she loves cats.
We took in an older cat in the summer it took him 2 weeks to be part of the family. Now he acts like to dogs and is the sweets thing going.
Welcome home Gordon!! :D
welcome home Gordito!
:D Welcome Gordon! Percy and Edwina are very pleased to hear that you have adopted a cat! Looking forward to photos! 8)
Congratulations!!!
It took my new kitty 1 week before he settled in and 1 month before he figured he owned the house and everyone in it.
So tell Tony to hang in there and practice a bit of reverse psychology. Cats seem to like it if you are a bit stand offish.
Welcome Gordon....
you have a nice family!
You will get used to the sheepies(Keira too) and
be very well loved!
Congrats Deb and Tony!
Cats definitely do not acclimate to their new environments the same way dogs do, but he will adjust. I'm sure he will be settled in soon and all the puppers will be licking their new friend.
Gordon is starting to spend little bits of time with us. But not too much. When he sees Tony or me, he gets excited, but still is standoffish.

Tony raises palm trees...BIG palm trees, in big huge pots. Gordon spends hours in the tree pots. He loves it there. We think/fear he's sometimes using the pots as litter pans :excited: Any ideas what to put in the soil to stop this, before it becomes a habit?

We put him in bed with us last night. He stayed long enough for a massage, and then scooted. Boy! Does he ever have a great purr!

I can't wait til he feels more at home. I do wish he'd start joining in more. Its making me a little sad that he's not joining in more.
You can cut the plastic pot trays in half and cover the dirt with it...then he won't lie in them either. My cats could never resist a potted plant as a litter box. I have no live plants in my house because of it.
I've also heard you can put chicken wire around the plant and if you don't like the look of it you can put moss over it, but I've heard that cats don't like the feel of the wire and when they go to scratch it, it catches in their claws and they don't like that.

Maybe I'll have to start sleeping under some chicken wire and see if that stops Lenny from using me as his litter box at night.
I put beach stone on the top of the soil in my plants. Murphy hasn't botherd them since.

Did you post pictures and I missed them?
Late to this post, but - CONGRATULATIONS! Gordon sounds like a wonderful kitty who just needs to settle in a bit. See? You really DID want a new cat!

You sound just like I did with my new cat. "But he doesnt love me", I wailed.
My hubby was quite exasperated with me. "its only been 2 days, give the cat chance" was his comment.
Now Rowdy sleeps with us every night. Well not the really hot nights, he's got an outdoor caged area that he goes and sits in and talks to the stars.
Hi Deb,
Get some orange or other citrus peel and put them in the pots. Cats absolutely hate the smell of citrus and will stay far away from the smell.

Tell Tony to give Gordon some time to fully acclimate. It take most cats about a month to really become comfortable in their surroundings, and some cats as long as six months. He sounds like he already making an adjustment.

Welcome home Gordon!

Kathie
Oooh, Kathie, really? Citrus? Do you think if I sprayed my bed with something citrus scented that Lenny wouldn't pee on it anymore? I'd be sad if it kept my good kittie off the bed at night, though...although I'd take that over being peed on...
Welcome Home Gordon! :D
He'll come around Deb, it takes a while.
Tony has gone through a personality change. He has become Robert DeNiro in meet the parents, and Gordon has become Jinx.

I can't believe (but am delighted) that Tony has fallen so hard for this cat!

I have pics and will post over the weekend.

Lizzie's cat appetite has returned, and she really wants a piece of Gordon!

Hi Barney 1,
Yes, citrus really does work to keep cats away. If I peel an orange for myself and then go to pet one of my cats they back away like I am poison! Just remember if they smell it you are going to smell it. I hope you like the way citrus smells!
