the power of hair!

Well, even though it's February in Wisconsin I shaved the resident foster down yesterday. She's 14 mos old and was going through a coat change neither one of us felt inclined to battle through.

Both Dawn and Kerry got calls about her royal obnoxiousness this weekend (she's a barking fiend, worse the last few days I think because I was babysitting a friend's rescue dog who is also loudly opinionated)

I noticed the funniest thing after I shaved her down. She chilled out! I'm sure it's only temporary till she gets used to her newfound baldness (which we both love, even though her coat wasn't really that long before), but I'll take it!

I'll try to get some pics. She looks like an OES x whippet cross, though she is purebred. Silly looking thing but very sweet and athletic :D

Pirate got a "shave" last week. Actually a very close cut. His fur was a mess from the snow, and he has tough fur to work with.

I love the way he looks! He looks very manly. He's a handsome boy. He seems happier too. When I see him cut down, I'm very pleased that he has a really nice shape. With all his fur, he looks "chunky", but isn't.

Liz was in a similar shape, but she has "better" fur and we were able to work it out.

I think sometimes, they really like the close cut. It must feel good.
i had to shave down duffy cause i could not keep him out of my muddy pond.. funny to see what was under all that hair

That's what I'm thinking with her too. All of mine have been matting more than usual on their bellies, probably due to the deep snow. She had that, but also Sadie was staying with us and spent the better part of her time chewing on Daph's coat. I didn't want to tell them not to play, but nor did I want one more dog to demat and stay on top of, so I buzzed her and then bathed her.

The bathing was especially interesting. Once I had her lathered up, and I shaved her pretty short so this is a piece of cake, she became rather slippery. Every so often she'd slip out of my hands and leap over my shoulder and out of the tub, which was a new one for me.

Of course, Sadie was utterly fascinated. What am I going to tug on now?????

She really has been much more calm ever since I buzzed her. Maybe she's treading carefully because she feels a bit vulnerable.

Whatever it is, I'll take it.
