If you find one, let me know! I've been in the dog show "business" for 11+ years now & still can't trim what I consider a decent butt! Same with the feet. I can do everything else pretty good. On the other hand, my breeder is a wizard with the scissors. She trims the prettiest butt & nicest feet I have ever seen. She just seems to have "the talent". |
I certainly will. Nigel is my practice dog. I think it would be fun to show, but I have a few years before I will feel obligation free enough to do so. I haven't clipped him since March's puppy cut. It gets so hot here...I had to do it. It would be nice to learn all the grooming tips and see if I am capable of keeping one in coat first. |
Here is a topic on it, also it recommends a book, which is out of publication but if you can get your hands on one then try to do so. It has diagrams that are simple covering all aspects of show trimming even down to the puffy feet also what scissors to use where.
http://www.oes.org/page2/6276~I_Just_Do ... _Area.html Get stuck in and practice, I always say if you muck up well it grows back. The only way to learn is have a go and snip snip snip. |
I would love to see a video of this, especially if the sheepie has a tail- what the heck do I do with this damn tail?!
There was a video by Mandy (Maxmm) which showed trimming the butt, she did it so quickly though, I must have watched it a hundred times but there is still a lot I don't understand. I'm a slow learner I don't know if the video is still on here, I'll have a look ... Found it, click here! Good luck Wendy, please post pics or a video so I can learn too! |
Good point I was wondering about how the tail fits in |
OK...I tried to open them but they just took me to a lost in clouds site. If anyone can find the videos and repost them...it would be appreciated by more than just myself. I think you just leave the tail and trim like you would otherwise. That is one of the complaints about the standard...nothing about the tail...just that it has one. |
Please remember the "showbutt" only looks like that when the OES is brushed up ready for a show, when they are at home with the rest of the gang you would never know the difference.

Uh oh! Ron! Do we have those videos anywhere else or was she the only one hosting them? I think I pulled a couple off but I will have to check my work computer. |

Extra sharp scissors. |
Each area seems to have a different style of show butt too... here in North America we trim a LOT more off than anywhere else.
With a decent show butt here you pretty much have butt coat that stands up all on it's own, in a show or running around at home, as long as the dog has decent texture and thickness of undercoat and it's trimmed short enough. Keeping it really short keeps them so much cleaner too and much easier to groom. |

Sorry folks
Hopefully someone techy can re-host them |
Hopefully so. I can get a lot of things from diagrams and instructions, but a video would be better. Of course, hands-on instructions would be ideal.
I just contacted a lovely lady here in NC yesterday to set up a grooming demo. She's fantastic at it and I am so excited to get a lesson I can hardly stand myself. I've finally got two "blank canvases" to work on. It's been 10 months since the wigglebums had a hair cut so I finally have full coated sheepies to work on & learn. |
Quote: Hopefully someone techy can re-host them Can someone post whatever videos they have to Youtube? I have tried searching to no avail. Of course, I get interrupted often -Betsy Ross loves YouTube - so if anyone finds some there, I would love to know too!
