Definitely double this (as written, makes three 3/4C fry breads and 1 is enough to make ANYONE full ...coming from the biggest piggy of them all)! * 2C flour * 1T baking powder * 1t salt * 1C milk * oil for frying (MUST be at 365-375 or won't come out right!!!!!!) Mix flour, baking powder milk & salt. On a very floured surface, knead the (will be sticky) dough for at least 5 min. Then let rest for 5. Make sure oil is HOT HOT 365. At least 1.5" deep. Measure 3/4C size balls of dough and ROLL out into circles. Make sure they are as thin as you can get them 1/4" ...they will become very thick even this thin. Cook on both sides until golden brown (think i did 2 min or so on each side). Drain on paper towels! Now for toppings... you can use this for ice cream with cinnamon sprinkled on top Or do what I did and that's brown 1lb beef with 1pkg of taco seasoning. I spread refried beans, followed by a little ground beef, then lettuce, cheese, and diced green/red/and white onions. Followed by some salsa and sour cream!!!!!!!!!!! Sooooo good. You can eat it like a big slice of pizza or fold over like a taco. For guests, I make a little less than 1/2C circles of dough b/c as you can see...this takes up my entire plate which is okay with me. |

Wow... everything you make looks SO good... I really think you need to do a recipe book with your photos etc.... |
DITTO THAT
Just another one for me to try.LOL I haveing a good time with them!!!!! |
If you do it the Indian way, stick your finger in the middle of the bread before frying to make a hole. This allows the center to cook before the edges get over done. But then they are making larger pieces.
Good fry bread is hard to beat. |
Good to know Sheepieboss!!!!!!!! |
SheepieBoss wrote: Good fry bread is hard to beat. Seriously. I mean, bread + frying = so good! I haven'd had fry bread in forever and I for some reason would never have thought to make it myself. |
That looks great. I can't belive you make your own fry bread. I like to cook but some things scare me and I never have the confidence to try them. This would be one. BUT, it looks so good. |
I use chili instead of refried beans and its awesome. My whole family gets excited when I make these. My measurements, I think, are slightly different then yours. |
BUT it's easier than hell! Heck, it doesn't even have rising time or have any yeast involved. Right from the fryer, they're amazing! ...but they taste great the next day too. |
