my dogs eat raw turkey pretty much everyday and they have had a little cooked turkey occassionally. I think the Tday warnings had something to do with overdoing it and seasoned turkey. |
It was the skin on the turkey. |

do you remember why? |
Thank you! Turkey but no skin. |
I don't remember exactly... too fatty? I know dogs were coming in that time of year and getting acute pancreatis from it. I'm sure the experts here know |
I cooked a turkey last Sunday and Snowy has had it everyday. Just not alot. |

I think that is the key. |
Could it possibly be the small turkey bones too?
I hope the "ok" turkey includes deli-turkey for sandwiches. It is one of the only things we can wrap pills in enough so Mags doesn't spit them out! She can somehow separate pills from almost anything we wrap or coat it in. I even found a keflex capsule stuck in her hair when brushing her one day! If not, then back to the drawing board...... |
the small amount of deli turkey you are using for pills won't generally bother her unless she is allergic to it or one of th epersrevatives they use. a nd the bones don't bother them unless they are cooked. My guys chow down on trukey necks everynight. we have a standing order with the butcher for 30 pounds a week (well three out of four weeks.) |
Turkey has one of the lowest fat contents of any meat so I doubt it was the fat.... |

That's a lot of turkey! And I thought getting 5 extra-large farm-fresh pigs ears every 2 weeks, cutting them up and freezing them was a lot! SHHHHHH! Don't tell Maggie....she thinks she is spoiled already and I don't want her to get any ideas!! |

Don't tell Maggie....she thinks she is spoiled already and I don't want her to get any ideas!! well my smallest dog is 70 pounds and we feed a raw diet. (I est my largest dog is 130++++ ) I don't feed pigs ears - maybe if I had an organic pig farm... well something to look for this summer at the farmer's market. |
Newfie is up to 130? Where'd the puppy go? Of course I'm jealous.......I miss our Newf.....not the slobber, but his hilarious personality. Jack is a pretty good second and he doesn't slobber |
My girls have had turkey everytime I have it with not problems. I don't give my dogs anythings with bones, I'm afraid they will choke or have other problems. |

So, you just ask the butcher for turkey necks and you give them to your dogs just the way the butcher gave them to you? I want to give my dog the raw stuff, but I'm not exactly sure what to ask for or how to give it to her. Also, my local paper is terrible so I didn't really trust the content. I get it for free so I go through just for some insight into our local events. |

I want to give my dog the raw stuff, but I'm not exactly sure what to ask for or how to give it to her. pretty much, they come frozen and we usually defrost them - sometimes they are still partially frozen though. when we started feeding raw I jsut bought a few things at the grocers and gave them to them, then we went with a premade mix and bought their turkey necks. now we go to the butcher, he grinds chicken backs for us and we ix them with a dehydrated veggie mix, we also get turkey necks (these are the amazon cousins of the little ones yu get int he grocery store for half the perr pound price) and tripe and organ meat. there is a yahoo list - natural OES about raw feeding. they helped us get started, along with mr newf's breeder. |
Kerry - what is the yahoo site? - I have forgotten.
I have a friend who was recommended to start raw (by a holistic vet) for a dog with health concerns. We were just talking about the OES Yahoo site yesterday. |
I don't know about turkey. My boys are eating turkey and barley kibble daily. Portage can't have wheat, and has been on that for years.
We've shared turkey before, and aside from the oh so distinctive aroma of turkey farts, there have been no problems. |

Ugh..I hate when you have to "enter the text as shown in the box" ....which I had to do when trying to join that link. I had to do it 4 times before they said I got the letters right. Why not just make them easy to read instead of all cryptic like! |
I joined too! |

Its annoying but its to stop automated programs from joining and spamming everyone who's a member. Something like that, I'm not the best at IT So I guess its here to stay. |

PS - LeAnne bought the Control Unleashed book and she started reading it this morning while donating plasma. She really likes it and can't wait to try some of the stuff on Martha! |
the dvd is out too. not a bad price for a four disc set. WHile I really like the control unleashed theory, we are using a trainer with different methods - that seem to have good results for us, at the moment. I may still get the DVD's and try to incorporate some of the relaxation stuff into our daily routines. |
I fed my dogs Raw Diet either, they are all doing well with it,but one of my Komondor who will having loss stool if he ate anything related to the turkey (even the turkey flavored cookies).I guess it can be a allergy, but other dogs are totally fine with it. |
