Anyway, I held out as long as I could. I've got those telltale stabbing throat pains of strep. (Not that huge a deal. I get it a lot and have antibiotics on hand rather than having to wait to see my doctor, so I'll be on the mend by tomorrow. Today, however, is awful, and I've called for a sub.) So last night my husband chose the guest room and took Portage, leaving me with little Smudge (Hudson). I didn't sleep well at all. I tossed and turned all night. Hudson has NEVER slept on the bed before. EVER. But last night he spent most of it on the bed snuggling with me. This morning he moved to my pillow (we shared) and several times he gave me gentle kisses on the forehead while I tried to fall back to sleep. It's just been this last week that his personality has started to show signs of sweetness. (He seems to finally be over the side effects of his neuter two weeks ago.) I wonder if it's the neuter, or he's just growing up, or a bit of both, but what a sweetie he's being these days (in addition to his usual evil, not in place of it.) There may be hope for him yet... |

So sorry you are ill!
Hudson sounds like great company for you. I have never had a male so I can not comment. get well soon. |
Hudson has a bit of a go there with his neutering. So he's finally feeling better........and those hormones are leaving his system.
He sees his pack leader feeling poorly so finally has an opportunity to participate. Sounds like Hudson too has found his "job." Hope your nurse doesn't have long duty, get well soon. |
My Jakester was the sweetest dog after his re-neutering at the age of 11. He had a cryptorchid but his first vet thought he had gotten it. Wrong.
He had been an intact 106 pound alpha-type dog with the ability to bite hard when being asked to do things he didn't want to do. It pretty much went away after the neutering. I don't recall how long it took, and time may have sweetened him in my memory somewhat as well. |
Maybe he had been waiting for the hubby to take the guest room all this time?
Hope you feel better soon! |
I sent an email to all of our teachers:
Wash your hands often. Keep your hands away from your face, preferrably below your shoulders. Drink liquids frequently - to stay well-hydrated and let the stomach acid kill the germs. Cough into your elbow - keep the germs away from your hands. And it applies to the kids too. Hudson is growing up! What a sweet guy! |
Poor you! Sounds as if you've had a rough couple days. I feel for you as I also work with kids but this year is a tad better as I switched to high school after many years in Elementary School. Still lots of illness but not as much going around as it does in younger grades. r
I think Hudson recognized you were ill and was looking after you. I truly believe that! Every dog that I've had (aprox 10 in my lifetime) could have been total nutcases or bouncy hyper dogs but all laid gently by my side when I'm not feeling well. I know they sense we are sick and are looking after us. You had a wonderful nursemaid and a warm fuzzy body laying next to you will always make you feel better! Hope you are on the road to recovery.
