Welcome!!! I am sorry you are having a problem.. Hopefully there are forum members with advice or suggestions for you... |
I haven't personally, but I've heard of too many OES who have over the years. Usually middle aged, usually malignant, a rather aggressive cancer which is easy to miss in the early stages. OES are among the breeds considered highly predisposed.
I think a few people have opted for chemo with mixed results. Not a lot of help, I know. So sorry. Kristine |
Ditto what Kristine just said. The few I've heard about were nasty. I hope your info is different. |
Cant be of any help, but sorry you are having to go through this with. Hoping for the best. |
I'm sure there is some difference; but we just did a bunch of tests to see if my cat had this. My specialty vet said chemo was an option should the tests have come back positive, which they didn't.
I think part of what will determine how successful this is treated is the level of familiarity your vet has with these sorts of illnesses. Where are you located; do you have a cancer specialist your dog can see? My regular vet was great and referred us to a local veterinary specialty hospital, and they actually had an oncology department, among other things. I'd say stack the odds in your favor, and see if you can't find some specialized care providers. GOOD LUCK and don't be a stranger; let us know if we can help! |
Thank you for your responses, but sadly we had to put our "Clancy" down last night. The bleeding became uncontrollable and we couldn't put our ten year old child through chemo. He lived a wonderful life and was loved immensely. We are left without our OES, but plan to one day add another one to our family. For those of you not familiar with this condition, please, seek treatment as soon as you see the symptoms. Sneezing and breathing problems (almost asthmatic sounding) are the first signs. Slow drip bleeding will follow.....Thank you all again for being so caring. |
I am so sorry that your boy......my thoughts are with you... |
