anti-infection precaution methods? any ideas?

My dog, Missy who i've had for four years was finally spayed the 20th of this month. Tonight i noticed that the area where she received stiches is red and swollan and possibly pussing because she can't seem to stop licking the area. I'm going to take her to the vet in the morning. She can have the stitches removed by tomorrow. However, I was wondering what could i put on her infection until tomorrow to either slow down the infection or relieve her of the pain she seems to be in. I feel guilty now for getting her spayed.

Don't feel guilty about getting her spayed. It will be much better for her and you in the long run.
You can try a little bitte apple around the site, not on it, that will irritate it and possibly cause infection. Also, try putting a t-shirt or sweatshirt on her and tying a knot in it to make it tight. (Think Hooters waitresses.) This should help keep her from being able to get at the area. Just watch that it doesn't start rubbing and causing irritation. If it does try putting a little padding between the incision and shirt, gauze or a menstrual pad would work.
Hopefully this will get you through the night if you are going to the vet tomorrow. Let us know how everything turns out.
Just try to keep the area clean with a warm wet cloth for now. The vet will probably want to give an injection of antibiotics and then send you home with some to give orally.
Please don't feel guilty. HAving her spayed is the best thing you can do for her health.

Try putting something on her to stop her from licking (like a T-shirt or underwear). Just a thought. You could also use some neosporin ointment - that won't hurt and will help it heal until you can get to the Vets.

Good Luck!
