Please contact New England Old English Rescue (NEOESR) and discuss this with Grannie Annie - the Placement Director (Grannie.Annie@neoesr.org) or ph # 781-259-8173. (www.neoesr.org)
I'm sure she will be able to give you a contact in your area. I'm sorry that you are going through this. My heart goes out to you. Kristen |
I'm sorry to hear that you have to go trough this, it must be a painful choice, but I'm sure NEOESR will give you a big hand.
You are in our prayers. |
thank you to those of you that have read and or responded to my post. I am still looking for homes for 3 of the females and the male. I have decided that I will put down my 14 year old female due to her age. She has been a wonderful friend and faithful companion from birth. I love her dearly but feel this is the best option for her. I know she'll be alot happier roaming outside the gates of Heaven with her mom, dad and sister than living with strangers for perhaps only a short time and wondering all the while why I abandoned her. Your help is greatly appreciated as the news from the doctors isn't too promising for my husbands health. I MUST find homes ASAP. thank you so very much for a least taking the time to read my post. God bless all. |
I'm sorry to hear this. Please know that there are people out there who will care for the 14 year old. I understand why you would consider euthanizing her - especially if her health is poor - but please contact Grannie Annie before you make a final decision.
My heart goes out to you. Kristen |
NEOESR has placed MANY elderly dogs. |
please understand her heath is an issue. I'm sorry with all else on my mind I failed to mention that. She doesn't get around like she use to,she has an ongoing ear problem and she has allergies. I would never put a dog down just because of its age. I'm so sorry for the misunderstanding. I've been in the OES for probably 20 plus years and have only HAD to put down 2 dogs and 1 puppy(mom stepped on her and damaged her heart). I've had a few others that died from natural causes and each time it was like loosing a family member. I would never make this decision lightly. I love this dog and making this decision was very difficult, but in my heart I feel its what would be best for her. It's definitly not whats best for me. |
Hi,
I'm so sorry to hear that you are going through this and my heart goes out to you in making this difficult decision. The others were correct in suggesting Grannie Annie and I hope that she'll find the right solution for you. I'm sure all your decisions were done with great thought and difficulty with your sheepies best interest in mind. I mean looking at their ages you've had them for some time and it's obvious this must have been a heart rendering decision. I wish you the best of luck and will keep you and your husband in my thoughts. Marianne and the boys |
Ive been Emailing this person about her 11 yr male. He sounds great! Does anybody have and suggestions on how to get him to Nevada. Contacts and such.
thanks cheryl |
Try Frontier airlines. They ship rabbits for $50. Due to the weather it might be a few months before they can do it but give them a call! Also flyingpaws.org is really helpful. Good luck! |
I was finally able to speak with Grannie Annie last night. She is more than willing to help me. From an email I received tonight from Cheryl she said she had talked to Grannie Annie and that she had filled out the application for my 11 year old male, so if all works out he will be heading for his new home in Nevada as soon as arrangements are made to get him there. Anyone still interested in helping may contact Grannie Annie or myself if you need her email address as she is handling this for me to insure that my babies all go to GOOD loving homes. Thank you so much. God bless you all for your help, encouragement, and concern. I will post again as i have more information. |
Dealing with NEOESR and Grannie Annie you can be assured your babies will be going to loving homes.
I admire you for having the courage to ensure your dogs have the care they need as you deal with your husband's health crisis. You obviously care a great deal for your dogs - that is evident in the long life of your 14 year old. That is something you should be proud of. You should never have to explain your decision as none of us can know what you are going through. I wish you and your husband the best. Take care. Kristen |
Thank you for your kind words. They come at a much needed time as I have just surrendered my parekeet and 3 cocketiels to their new family. I have also had them for many years but was blessed with a family that could take all four and keep them together. "And they 're close enough to my location that I have been invited to come see them whenever I please."Praise the Lord for GOOD hearted animal lovers. My contact with Grannie Annie has been a blessing. Today a lovely young lady volunteer named Katie, came to visit my dogs, to assess the situation, check their temperment and to take pictures. I know now that there are a lot of people in the process of helping me assure my babies all end up in good homes. I will keep you updated as often as possible. In the meantime if you have any contacts or help please contact Grannie Annie. Thank you so much. Pam |
Pam, you're in good hands, and your precious friends are in the best of hands with Grannie Annie.
There are several (many?) members of this forum who either are or were members of the Board of Directors of NEOESR, and many have worked closely with Annie over the years, in many capacities. Thank you for taking care of your pets this way, and may God bless you and your husband. |
thank you Ron and everyone else. God bless you all and the wonderful work you do. May He continue to lead and guide you in your endeavors and keep you and yours safe in His loving arms. pam |
Hello Members,
Grannie Annie ("G/A") has put out the call for help!!! Grannie Annie wrote: Good Morning Listers,
Rescue needs you all to put your Search and Sequester hats on. There are five OES in an Indiana town called Poland. Due to a serious health problem for one of the uprights, all five OES must be rehomed asap. Yesterday a fellow dog lover evaluated the group. She reports the following: Shadow, 14 year old grande dam...[not available] Bubba, 11, in great health, his actions belie his years, friendly ...needs to be neutered and groomed. (NEOESR has possible home for him but would necessitate transport to Hawthorne, NV) Tilly, 10 in excellent shape ..just needs grooming and spay...and heartworm check. Katie is 8 and full of life, good eye contact and very happy, needs shave and heartworm check. Annie, is 6 and looks and acts like Katie. These last two are pups of Tilly's. Is there ANYONE who could foster any of these sheepers? I have pictures on the way later today. Could you foster, transport, adopt? We need to move these dogs and my hands are tied in New England. Fortunately, someone with a retriever drove to visit these happy-go-lucky doggers all of whom are living in the garage with an attached outside pen. I would rather see if we can place them in different homes as opposed to having them go to a shelter. Thank about it. Thank you so much for helping. -Ron. |
BTW, helping in "ANY WAY" means that if you are interested in adopting one of these dogs, you SHOULD contact G/A... RIGHT AWAY. |
My dogs use to all live in the house with us and therefore were house broken and have house manners. When we moved here the dogs agreed to let us have the house as long as we let them have the yard, the attached garage and the basement. Yet they still insisted they take turns coming into the house. Please help us find good loving homes for my kids. Thank you so very much for your help. |

Thank you so much for offering information on your dogs, Pam. And thank you for your honesty. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you. Prayers for you, your family and the Sheepies. They truly are in great hands, and by the sound of your posts, you are too. Blessings, Nancy |
Thank you for the kind words nahakala. Yes this has been very difficult and very stressful. I love my kids and hate to part with them. I feel as though I am abandoning my children. I've had them since birth and planned on this being as my marriage - til death do us part. But in this case I love them enough to let them go. I have to. I spoke with Grannie Annie tonight and she has made arrangements for me to drop two of them off at the groomers on Monday of next week. At that time they will be groomed, vet checked, spayed/neutered and then transported. While the grooming is being done she has in home interviews scheduled, so if all goes well my 11 yr old male "Bubba" will have a new home in Nevada, and my 6 yr old female "Annie" has a new home in Illinois. The other two are to be taken to the groomer on Wed. or Fri. and are still in need of homes. Please contact Grannie Annie if you can be of any assistance or if you can provide a loving home for one or both of my remaining girls. Thank you to everyone involved. Thank you for your concern, thoughts and prayers. They are much needed and appreciated. Thank you. Pam |
just a quick note to let you know that i took Bubba and Annie to the groomer today and said my goodbyes. Bubba is still looking for a ride to Nevada I believe and Annie will soon be on her way to a wonderful home in Michigan I believe it was. Thank you to the two families that have adopted my wonderful babies and I hope they fill your homes with as much love, humor and fun as they did ours. Still looking for homes for Tillie and Katie. Please consider adopting them as they are wonderful loving girls. News from the surgeons is that they don't think my husband would survive the surgery. So please continue your prayers. Thank you. pam |
Hi Pam,
Again my heart goes out to you for this difficult time you are going through. All of us that love our sheepies know how hard it must have been to let them go, and as you said it's because you love them. Myself and others have no doubt of that. My thoughts go out to you and your husband. Hugs to you Pam Marianne and the boys |
Pam,
I am just so devastated by your situation. I believe that you have made the correct decisions in a horrible situation. I think about you, your husband and your dogs frequently through the day, and I pray you will have the strength to continue to find the correct paths in these difficult times, and for your burdens to be made easier for you to bear. I know that saying goodbye to Bubba and Annie was a hard thing to do. They miss you right now as much as you miss them. My experience tells me that in three days they will be happy with their new surroundings; it will take longer for you. They will be surrounded with love from people who love what they do, and will be welcomed into homes that have been screened and really do want to help a dog in need. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and letting us know what we can still do to help. |
Pam,
I cannot imagine the emotional turmoil you must be in right now, and my heart goes out to you! As Ron said, you are doing the best thing for your dogs in the worst possible situation, and I admire you so much for your courage to do it. I will keep you and your husband in my prayers as you face some trying times ahead. Chris |
I can't thank you all enough for the kind words, encouragement, thoughts and prayers. It has really been a blessing for me through all of this. Yes, I miss Bubba and Annie so very very much. My home is very empty without them even though I still have 3 OES with me. You mention how you can help me. The things you've already done are wonderful. The only thing I can ask is that if you or someone you know can give my Tillie and Katie a wonderful forever home please contact Grannie Annie. She is an angel and has helped more than words can say. I fully trust that God has sent me to this site and that my babies will all live out the rest of their lives with families that I can rely on to take care of them. I find comfort in that and in knowing that you all care about them as much as I do. Thank you. Pam |
GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!! My kids are all safe at home with their new families. They are happy, healthy and being spoiled. Bubba as you know went to Neveda to live with Cher and her son. Annie went to Michigan to live with Jackie and her family. Tillie and Katie went to a foster family in Illinois, whom asked prior to taking them if they might be able to keep them if they fell in love with them. Well, I spoke with Grannie Annie today and she informed me that this wonderful couple has decided to adopt both girls!!!!!!!! Another prayer answered. My husband and I thank all of you for adopting our kids and giving them wonderful, loving and forever homes. I KNOW you already love them as much as we did. We cannot thank you enough, there are no words to express our thanks. But, we will leave it to the 4 kids to express it for us, through their loyalty and unconditional love. We have decided not to put down our 14 year old "Shadow". As my husband said, "he's fighting for his life - how can we take hers". Yes, she too has health issues but, she'll tell us when the time is right. We send a special thank you to G/A and ALL those involved in placing Bub and the girls. I don't know names but I know someone drove Bub to Chicago to put him on a plane to Nevada. A 5 hour trip both ways and a night in a motel. The groomer in Indiana, the vet, the foster families, and many more that we don't know about. We thank you all. Due to the critical onset of my husbands illness he just did medically retire in January, our financial situation was put on hold for awhile waiting on paperwork to process. Grannie Annie and the NEOESR placed my kids at their expense. If you could find it in your heart and pocketbook to make a donation of any kind I know they would appreciate it. I also want to thank those of you that respond to these posts. They are very comforting and encouraging. Thank you and God bless you ALL. Pam |
Pam,I have been reading up on the your situation, and I tell you from the bottom of my heart that you and your hubby are some very wonderful, thoughtful people. The dedication you have for your OES is amazing.I KNOW it must have ripped your heart out making this decisssion to place your OES in new homes BUT for the love of them you did it for them, and I hope you know they will be great and they will thrive in their new homes.I dont know your hubbies medical condition(the nurse in me never shuts off..hehe!!)but I wish him ALL the best to get better and stronger.God Bless you and your family. Tanya |
Tanya, thank you for your kind words. OK NURSE lol he has bulleuos (spelling) emphysema. This is in his right lung, which as you know supplies 60% of your breathing capacity. He has 2 giaint bullei in that lung leaving him with less than 10% usage of that lung. He has small blebs in the left lung. He was tested by a major heart-lung transplant team for possible lung reduction or transplant. It was prior to and during this time that we made the decision to give up our 5 OES. I'm not telling you this for sympathy, but not knowing where you live I thought maybe you might know of some type of treatment that may be available. The doctors have ruled out surgery because they don't think he'd survive it. Last Feb. he fell and collasped that same lung, and because of the powder they use when they reinflated it, that totaly ruled out the reduction surgery. Got any suggestions? Sorry for changing the conversation from dogs to health, but.............. thanks again. Pam |
Pam-
After all you have through I truly hope your husband recovers from his illness. Knowing your beloved dogs have been safely placed can at least relieve you of that burden and you can concentrate on the road ahead. Best of luck to you both and God bless you-Holly |
We had heard about great families that Grannie Annie had found for beloved or neglected pets from others over the years. It hadn't really hit home until this story and the quick response from the NEOESR and G/A herself. By the time I saw this story in the forum, most every sheepie had been adopted and I feel badly because we also live in Indiana.
Today we sent in our membership dues plus a contribution to the the NEOESR. Hope everyone will do the same. Your story is amazing, especially Bubba's trip out west. Best of luck to your family, you are in our thoughts. |
