My husband our 2 children (1 and 3 years old) and our 3 year old sheepie will be moving to Bangkok, Thailand for 3 years for my husband's job (he is military and will be at the embassy). We have absolutely decided to bring our sheepie with us; after MUCH information gathering we are confident it will be a safe place for her to live. We have worked with our housing office and will be able to have a secure yard for her and I have spoken with some Thai nationals here at the Thai Embassy here in DC (we live in Northern VA) and met a couple from the embassy with family in Bangkok who actually have 2 sheepies-- and I thought Gracie would be the only one!! My question is about the actual overseas travel. I am very worried for such a long flight. I have also spoken with people from the Thai Embassy and we are set for all the requirements for entry etc. However, I am very nervous about such a long flight. The trip will take about 24 hours door to door with 2 different layovers (San Francisco and Tokyo) flying United, most likely--though ultimately depends on the gov't. BTW Gracie travels very well in the car on long trips and has a kennel which she is used to and sleeps in on occasion (by her own decision). My question is---does anyone have any experience with overseas travel with sheepies? How did it go? Any advice?? Also, do you know if it is possible to go and see your dog, let her out, feed/ water her during layovers? Any experience with flying dogs on United? We are planning on having her travel with us so she will be in the pressurized/heated portion of the cargo hold. Any experiences/ ideas are much appreciated!! |
