This morning when he went to poop nothing fell. I looked and looked and then cringed and checked his rear end and found it. Or half of it. So I guess a two part question, firstly is there any chance there was something in the poop that caused it to lodge? (he showed no signs of distress at all before, during or after) Second, dear lord, is there a good way to get out of that situation? We used a plastic bag to pull away most of it and then got his scissors and snipped away what ever else we could and baby wiped what ever else was there and then cleaned/sanitized everything in the front hall......We let him outside after that and the other half of the poop never appeared. I could easily go another 6 months without doing that again! Any good suggestions for dealing with poopy ordeals? |

You need to keep the hair around his hinder short(er). I've had this problem with both dogs. The poo gets "stuck" in the hair. It can cause problems if it gets stuck but the dog still needs to go but can't because the "path" is blocked.
If you do a search you will find info and I believe pictures on this subject. |
When we first got him his stool was looser so we were quite vigilant about trimming but the last while everything has just fallen with no clingons or anything. So there's a lesson there! Vigilant bum trims from now on! |
I just did that weekend before last. It was time to do the sanitary trims again. You've got to keep a path cleared. |
Yesterday Mo came running in and jumped on the bed where I was reclined. When she turned her butt towards me, there was a giant Poop-berg! Called hubby to take her outside immediately. He cleaned her off and by the time that was done I was up and had the clippers ready to clear out a poop shoot. I was lax, I regularly feel back there and noted a few dry dingles, nothing major but was too lazy to trim. Well, it's long long before dry little berries become a giant.......well, you know.
Keep the back door open. With longer coats is regular inspection and maintenance. If you aren't squeemish, you can reach back there daily and feel. If there are berries.......dingleberries, get the poop shoot cleaned out least a poopberg suddenly appears. When MO was properly trimmed, Jack was also trimmed. |
Trim the vent! Snip! Snip! I do it once a month or so, and the groomer does a nice job of making the runway clear so when I have to snip, it's not a complex job.
Also, make sure that if your dog eats grass (sometimes you just can't stop them from doing it), that you have something to grab blades that don't always make an escape with the poo. Hard to believe, but it is NOT a fun experience when your dog is hopping around in the "poop-stance" and people watch you gag and get the poo-grass out with your bare hands. EEEWWWWW! What a nightmare it can be! |
