After 15 years I finally had the courage to say goodbye to my overwhelmingly long locks. I cut off 17" of hair. Of course the women in the place couldn't understand why I was teary eyed and biting my lip for 15 minutes trying not to breakdown in public.....lol My hair was past my bum bum and now it's a lil' shorter than my bra line. The best news of all... They graciously accepted my hair for locks of love. All in all I'm glad I did the right thing. At the same time, I feel reallllly realllly strange without my hair keeping my entire back warm. Ron, no this isn't a joke - it's gone.....lol Michelina~ |

Woohoo! I just did mine, too, Michelina and it IS a big deal. It's so weird to feel air on the back of your neck or go to flip your hair up while putting on a jacket and realizing that you don't need to! I liked mine immediately though.
You need to post some pictures. I want to see how much hair you have after 17 inches off. I think you had about 30 inches of hair so it's still long, I'll bet! |
congratulations .........it's good to know you're giving someone a chance for a new lease on life by giving you hair to locks for love! (I did this about 10 years ago). |
Yay, What a wonderful thing to do |
Wow! You are brave!!! I can't wait to see your new look and what an incredible generous offer to donate it to cancer patient. You rock!!!

Well done, that is very brave of you! I understand about the emotional thing. Please post some pics, do you have 'before and after' shots? What kind of style did you go for? |

ditto! Pictures!!!!!! |
Yep we need pics.
But what you did for others must make you feel so good. Few have hair that long and am able to help, me included. I can't grow more than a inch now. AGE!!! |
I can't believe we get a thread like this and there aren't before and after pics!!!! |
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
How mean is that???????? |
We must have pictures.
I think itis a brave thing to do especially if you have always had long hair... but it grows again! |
How wonderful your hair was thick enough for Locks for Love!!
The longer mine gets, the thinner it gets, I'll probably have just one hair that reaches my bumbum My bun looks more like a mini muffin |
Im sure your hair looks beautiful!!!
It will make a beautiful wig for someones cold bald head..lol....thanks! sniff...at least i can say mine is up to 3 3/4'' long now...lol.... you rock! |
YAY
Now where is the picture of the new do? |
Wow, Michelina, you were brave.
I loved your long hair, but I bet the "trim" looks great too. Just think, you still have hair longer than most people. Great that you donated it too. Your hair is so nice, someone will be very lucky. yes, I will add to the request for pictures! At least a few after ones. |
Congratulations! A new do always feels different but kind of fun too. And Locks of Love is such a good cause.
I've donated my hair twice now, but the difference is that by the time it's long I'm always dying to get rid of it. Right now it's fairly short so I'm dreaming of long. I do the same thing with the seasons. I'm always dreaming of what I don't have. Both times I had it cut off I had it put into a ponytail, and the stylist cut staight above the elastic, and then we figured out what we could make of what I had left. I saw it as an adventure, but both times there were women in the salon who were hysterical for me. I guess since I spent a lot of time growing it with the intent to donate it I didn't get too attached to it. Of course, I echo the sentiment of others, I'd love to see the after pix. (If you haven't already had time to post them.) I bet they're great. |
At "just past your bra line", your hair is still about 10" longer than mine. I can't believe you did it! I'm sure it both looks and feels GREAT.
I always liked your long hair. Unlike most people with hair that long, yours was actually healthy and pretty. I'm sure whoever gets the wig made from it will be thrilled to pieces! Pictures, please!! |
Wow... I want to see before and after pics too!
I had hair down to about my butt for a while and chopped it ALL off... very short, basically almost buzzed at the nape of my neck. I actually really liked the new do, but my hair grows too fast so to maintain the style I had to get it cut every three weeks. That was a pain, and I missed long hair so I've been growing it back. It was about 4 years ago when I cut it all off, and now it's about 2 or 3 inches past the bra line. I've had it cut since several times, usually 2 or 3 inches at a time because my hair is so frizzy... drives me nuts. I want to grow it really long again though... |
ok....I'm going to post pictures so please (crossing paws) I hope this works....I'm going to have Art get a photo of it.
Before AND after - To answer some questions that were asked, I got a simple layer cut, and there really isn't a style at all...it's just shorter...a heck of a lot shorter Thank you for the compliments on my "old" locks. Michelina~ (will eventually get over feeling funny) |
Hey---Where are the pics |
Ok...I uploaded the pictures, um....do I have to wait for the links so I can post them here?
I know NOTHING about adding pictures into threads/posts. Michelina~ |
Ok, here we go!
Before: Before and After: That was a lot - I bet you feel so much lighter! Mine used to be long, and it is super thick. I felt as light as air when I cut it off! |
LOL. The amount I cut off was a little less than what your "trim" is now!
I worked with a girl that had crazy long hair like you did and she only wore it coiled up in a bun all the time because it was so much hair to deal with. Now you still have an INCREDIBLE head of hair and you can wear it so many ways. It's gorgeous. If I could grow beautiful, thick hair like yours, I'd be the happiest girl in the world! |

Ditto.... holy cow |
Michelina
You are beautiful both ways! Hold your head up, I know it must be much easier now! Kathy |
Wow!....Thank you for posting the pictures, I don't know what the heck I'm doing...hahaha!
Thank you for saying the beauty thing ( )...super duper sweet. And yes, I did wind up wearing it in a bun 80% of the time, ESP when I was painting..... headaches are/were quite common. and yes, sitting on it would be painful if I didn't get all of my hair out of the way in time. Getting stuck in my truck door, doorknobs, sucked out of windows if someone opened the window in my truck...LMAO.... The top picture was an idea of the neverending hair although it was clipped out....(in case people were wondering that's not Arthur, haha). the other picture my hair was "cut off" in the photo as well but by a mere inch or two. So yes, all in all, I needed a change, was tired of headaches and I was so happy that I was able to help donate. Thanks again for all the kind words. I'm sure MOST if not all of you wouldn't have thought twice before giving to locks of love! Something is wrong with my cookie setting....grrrrr....keeps logging me out. Michelina (I Dream of Sheepie) P.s. I'm gonna miss doing the "cousin it" impression for people!!! |
WOW. I showed my husband and we definitely weren't imagining your hair being that long to begin with!!!! i also had never seen you before, and you're a lot younger than I had imagined!!! I guess I figured someone with your talent had to be older. Anyway, you and your hair are gorgeous! I bet it's a lot more manageable now! |
You have beautiful hair! I honestly love the length is it now - -and I think it is wonderful you donated your hair!!!! |
Its gorgeous! And...you still have A LOT of hair! What a loving thing to do....giving your hair away. Honey, you'd be beautiful bald!!!! |
It's still longer than mine has ever been. Just as I suspected, it's still long, healthy, thick and beautiful. It will be so much more verstile now. I'm sure you'll learn to love it. |
Wow you have beautiful hair. I am so way jealous. You look beautiful and it was so kind of you to donate it |
Wow. I can't believe how much hair you still have for having cut off so much! It's WAY longer than mine is.
I think it looks great. |
Welcome to the club!!!!
Of all the people, you are the one who I thought would never take the plunge! You talked a big game before and look at you now! |
