Great to hear you have shaggybears. You cant imagine how happy I am to hear this My dog was born in 1996 and the sire was Familytree deep blue sea. The Bitch was SB all shooked up.
At this link you can see the whole pedigree: http://oes.shaggybears.nl/pages/overdeo ... /index.php I am making a Dutch OES-database. And I can't find any living shaggybears, so please help me to add your dogs You can e-mail me your pedigree with some pictures to oes@shaggybears.nl (i like that domain ) and I will add them. I am so curious to see the picts! cheers, Elles |
Wow! That's so interesting!!!
I'm a pedigree buff. Check out www.furcertain.com - you may find something of use there. The little dark bitch depicted there with the flag was sired by a Shaggy Bear dog as it happens. She is Masquerade Must Be Madness NA. In fact, all of my youngest are by AM CH Shaggy Bear's Skywalker (Luke) who is most definitely alive and well and now living in Wisconsin. He was imported by two breeders back east (US) and my vet (OES breeder herself) fell in love with his personality when I brought him out to breed to my bitch and eventually talked his owners into letting him live with her. I babysit him periodically. He's a real love. He is a half brother of your dog - their dam's were the same, but he is from a later litter by GER CH Arlis Jimi Hendrix. I'll dig up some photos of him and I can e-mail Jimi's pedigree since you already have the other side, as well as the pedigree of his get if you're interested, though none carry the Shaggy Bear kennel name in the US. He sired a litter back in 02, one in 06 (mine - with the bitch in my avatar, the little dark puppy bitch is one of his daughters, I also have another daughter, as well as a son, and three of the "puppies" are living in MN, one being Got Sheep's Chewie in her avatar) and another litter in 07. He's consistently passed on his lovely temperament, though most have been on the mischievously naughty side. Very sweet, athletic, often busy puppies who have done well when herding instinct tested (multiples in two litters) and who do agility (as did Jimi in his senior years), obedience, lurecoursing (for fun) some herding and an assortment of other activities. High energy and fun. They live to please. For the most part Kristine |
Hi Kristine,
yeah, I ve seen your website and tested some pedigrees. Lisa, Skywalkers mothers was also in there. Nike, our SB was the first litter of Lisa in 1996. Skywalker the last and third one. Skywalker en New Age has been living with Joyce of the whisperwood's. I ve been searching to contact them, but i haven't found a website. Do you know one? There is also a full sister of Skywalker in Germany. I remember her name was Celine Dion. They didnt breed with her. My current dog is an offspring of SB kiss me quick. How did you get your information of your oes-database? I tested some big dutch breeders and they werent included. If you wish, i can help you with completing the dutch part by giving you the pedigrees of my website. Nike really looked likes her daddy Gen (familytree deep blue see) He is still alive and more than 14 years old! How are you SB doing it with there legs and hips? Nike got atrose with 8 years old and passed away this summer after getting an aggresive cancer. If you wish to see pictures of her, you can mail me. cheers, Elles |
Whisperwood doesn't have a website. Joyce says she's bred her last litter - she's in her 70s and not too keen on whelping litters anymore, but her partner, Linda, will most likely continue on. I speak with Linda pretty regularly and could put you in touch with her. Luke's <Skywalker's> sister still lives with either Linda or Joyce, I'm not sure which. But as noted Luke is now a Cheesehead <lives in Wisconsin > I see you're registered now I'll PM you Linda's contact info.
It's too early to really say re hips and legs. My bitch is OFA excellent and Luke came back OFA good at five years old which I found encouraging, but not convincing since I don't have good breadth of pedigree on him in terms of hips. So far only one of the puppies has been OFA'd and he came back OFA Fair, which is passing but still dissapointing. I like to wait till they are a bit older than the minimum 24 mos figuring I'm more likely to capture problems if there are any, so will start OFAing my three and work on the getting the remaining two in MN done this spring - they'll be three in April - to see if this is a consistent issue, or merely one of those things. The Fair dog is tremendously athletic and sound, but the rating doesn't thrill me. We shall see. I take it atrose is athritis? Luke has some in his carpal joints which bothers me as he is only 8 as well. I'm so sorry about your girl. What kind of cancer did she have? Anything you can share healthwise is very much appreciated as I try to track what health problems could show up in the line. Marieke has been very forthcoming to Luke's owners, but it's important to stay abreast with new information as it develops. I would share the information with Linda and the other breeder who used him, just so you know. I presume that's OK? Yes, I saw the Familytree/Brightcut resemblance in your girl's pic A number of Cass's dogs and offspring thereof have had excellent longevity. She is very health conscious. The pedigree database is a merger of a number of databases and the sources are fairly diverse, with most of them being American as well as an Australian breeder who has been a tremendous help. Anything you can contribute to fill in the blanks would be wonderful and also shared with the OESCA Open Health Registry database as well: http://www.oescahealthregistry.org/ How old is your current girl? All the best, Kristine |

Kristine Kristine: I know your thoughts on this issue. But my vet went out of his way to stress to me that there can be very little difference between a Fair & a Good. The important thing is that he & I both studied the x-rays & know the dogs & their pedigree. He said if 3 other OFA vets read the same x-rays you could get a Good! So go figure. Years ago we were geting a lot more Excellent rating across the board in the breed. I have a feeling maybe the newer OFA vets are being a bit more critical....which can be good for the breed if you use the information correctly when considering a breeding. |
Marilyn Are you familiar with a recent study about the consistency of the OFA ratings? I am sure I saw one somewhere and can't seem to locate it recently. |
Yes, i really like to have contact with linda. maybe she has a picture of lisa. |
