Your new OES puppy at 13-14 weeks will most likely be bigger and weigh more than either of your other two dogs. I would suggest seperation in the beginning until you get to know your new puppy.
He's also going to be boisterious and into things that can get him into trouble without supervision. So, you'll want to restrict the area he has access to and be sure there are only puppy safe toys for him to play with while you're gone. Welcome to the forum!! |
Your new dog won't be trustworthy enough to be left alone for many reasons (chewing, peeing, etc), so for training reasons... the dog should be left in a single crate or gated area. Not to mention, my family would say it was plain cruel to do that to the existing dogs since your dogs are probably not in the puppy stage and will see the non stop puppy as a complete pain in their rear. There wouldn't be someone there to say "That'll do" when the puppy has been chewing on your other dogs for the last hour or so!
Welcome to the board, and I hope you stay to post pics and stories of your new and existing dogs. |
You are crazy if you do not crate a 14 wk old pup. Plus as mentioned it will help the other two dogs as well. Remember, the pups paws will SOON be larger than both your dogs. OES or at least Obe uses their paws like a hand, quite funny really. He is good with small dogs but sometimes forgets how big he is. |
PS...congrats on the new pup and welcome to the forum from Colorado. |
Thanks for your help everyone I'll make sure to seperate them so. This is a great site for information and advise. I'm trying to be well advised before he arrives so everything will run smoothly for him entering the family. The other two dogs are quite young and playfull so hopefully a huge puppy wont cause them too much distress. Fingers crossed that they will end up great friends!! I'll put up pictures as soon as I work this thing out. |
Welcome to the forum...looking forward to seeing pictures of your new pupper!!!! |
