When I was younger and people asked, what do you want to do, what interest you, my answer was always one of those two careers. When I went to school last time decided on a business degree instead of Environmental science. Why I have know idea. But once again when asked what do I want to do, the answer was the same Oceanography/Marine biologist. So this time if I'm going to do this and spend the money, I'm going to do what it is I really want. I also have a million questions that I would like to ask. |

Most people don't know this, but I am a Marine Biologist. I remember one day I was walking along the beach with my new girlfriend. "The sea was angry that day my friends, like an old man trying to send back soup at a deli..." |
Actually, I am not a Marine Biologist, but I think you're on the right track to be asking around. Colorado might not me the optimum location for finding marine folks though.
Have you headed over to the website for places like the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute? |
Thats a good Idea Ron, I didn't know what to tell Shon
Shon you go guy!!! Keep on learning. |
Be prepared for a PhD before anyone will look at you. It used to be one of the hardest fields to get a job because of all those interested and very few jobs (marine bio). Research is government or corporation run, so at mercy of the economy for grants. Still there may be room for an enterprising young man. There's still a lot to learn out there......... |
Soooo after more research I have found this out. Slipped my mind earlier, marine biologist/oceanography, a lot of the time is spent on a boat as well as at sea doing research. Where is Obe suppose to use the bathroom??? He cant go on a boat and he cant hold it forever either. I'm still interested in same degree, maybe zoology. I could study wolves in Montana...
BTW, Colorado State University has one of the best marine programs in country. I know who would figure. Had a friend who went there graduated, then did an intern in Aussie land. Now lives in Hawaii. Some surf the snow others prefer the water. |
I have a JD with a certificate in Environmental Law. All I can say about the technical stuff is booooorrrinnnng! I'm sure marine biology is much more interesting though But in all seriousness, now is definitely a great time to get in that field- I say go for it! |
my brother's girlfriend is getting her PhD in marine biology/jellyfish reproduction...all I know is that she's going to be in school for many many years... |
I tok one class in oceanography and it was totally cool! My love of the movie jaws and fear of open water kept me from pursuing that further. And the fact that I hate being cold an wet diesnt help!
Woods Hole is totally awesome foe R&D though. Stil cutting edge. |
My roommate got a Masters in oceanography and marine life or something along those lines, and is now in the Civil Services doing stuff in the ocean ...much like the Coast Guards. He loves his life. |
