This is interesting, if it's true. I object to WalMart on principle 8) ..........it has been years since I set foot in one. I guess I am one of the few.

I am no big fan of them. I live in a college town and in they came 1/2 mile from my home. The poor store owners in town are having a hard time now. Also we have a NEW lowes. That did put the locals out of business

I'm not a Wal-Mart or Target shopper...I'm a Hy-Vee / Hen House type of gal.
I prefer Target and will go down the mountain to Golden to shop, bypassing a Super Wal-Mart. I grocery shop at the new Safeway in Evergreen. I try to keep my money local, support the small business owners of Evergreen, restaurants, shops, etc.

If those numbers are true, WOW hard to believe.
Good for you Shon. Sometimes it is hard to by local. We have a family owned food store. Their prices in somethings are much higher. Then I go to Sams club. Our big chain store is lowering prices to help people out.

FYI.................feel free to pass along.........................

ROCHESTER, NY – If an antibiotic is just what the doctor orders during the ‘cough-and-cold’ season, your prescription won’t cost you a penny at Wegmans. The 72-store grocery chain announced that effective Wednesday, January 7, 2009, with a Shoppers Club card, there will be no charge for generic oral antibiotic prescriptions during the months when usage peaks: between now and March 31.

“A few months ago we began to lower prices on hundreds of food products in anticipation of lower costs in 2009,” says President Colleen Wegman. “There’s been such a tremendous response, it triggered discussion about other ways we could help customers and employees save.”

The program covers up to a 14-day supply of the generic oral antibiotics listed below. There are no limits on the number of prescriptions that can be filled, and it includes both new prescriptions and refills:

Amoxicillin
Cephalexin
Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim
Ciprofloxacin (excluding Ciprofloxacin XR)
Penicillin VK
Ampicillin
Tetracycline
Erythromycin Stearate and Ethylsuccinate
Doxycycline Hyclate (capsules)

“We understand the economic pressures families are facing, including the rising cost of health care, which is something I’m especially concerned about,” says CEO Danny Wegman. “We hope this program will help families better cope with those expenses.”

Wegmans estimates that the program has the potential to save its customers (across all market areas) approximately $1 million.

Nope, you are not the only one. We can't stand them. Cheap crappy stuff, predatory business practices, poor wages, etc. But America loves them and has succeeded in getting rid of lots of the smaller shops in their town. And then they like to complain about no jobs. Go figure.

I really would like to encourage any who did not watch the video I posted earlier about the story of stuff to watch it now. Most people don't think about the cost of the consumer culture. http://www.storyofstuff.com/ In this shaky economy it probably matters even more to be shopping locally to help YOUR town.
I don't care what people think. I heart Wal-Mart, and am heading there in a few hours. I'm not sure what I'd do w/o their wonderful selection, locations, and prices. :hearts:

I prefer Target and have lots of love for them, but I just can't get it all done there.
:? Well i hate shopping for groceries and i hate shopping for household necessities so i make the trips as fast as possible, which means Wal-mart super centers. I used to work for a woman that HATED Wal-mart and she would "educate" me quite frequently on my local business destroying habits and while i agree, i am a HUGE sucker for convince and still continue to shop there. I like Target but the one in my town is always low on selection and most grocery stores here are always way more expensive.

The grocery prices are so much cheaper at Wal Mart then they are at Winn Dixie or Publix our choices here in Florida. A cake mix that is $2.65 at Publix is 96 cents at Wal Mart for an example. We have to make our food dollar stretch as far as we can.
I believe the numbers. Husband's nephew works for WalMart Corp in Bentonville. He was in charge of setting up distribution warehouses around the world......West Point top of class grad. He's been promoted to ??? Anyway he off handedly told me how many 747 cargo planes come in and out of Bentonville area per day..........it was astounding!

I used to be only Target person because my first experience with WM was an old, dark small store, icky! When the supercenters came about I gave them another try, much better. But Target has always been a young store, younger styles in clothing, housewares, etc. So I gradually weaned my way to WM.......which was easy because they built a supercenter 5 miles from me. The first new anything around here since 1980. The old "mom and pops" have nothing that I want or need. I hated having to go into town to shop. So I admit, I do go to WM about once every 2 or 3 months or so.
It's mostly accurate according to snopes. They go through and explain the numbers here:

The ONLY thing I like about walmart is the fact it's literally one stop shopping. You can technically pick out curtains, pick up a prescription and go grocery shopping, and get your tires fixed all in one store. It's almost bizarre. - Why I think it's so hugely popular??? It's convenience.....

We also make fun of it and call it wally world...lol, I guess it's the flip of a coin on how I feel depending on the day and mood I'm in....lol
8O I'm afraid that I shop at Wal Mart for select items. For instance the kitty litter is cheaper and in the spring, bedding plants and perennials are not only cheaper but the slection is good and they're in better condition than some of the local seasonal places.

Food is also cheaper there but our Wal Mart has a small food section I it's good for bread, tinned goods and some frozen foods. I usually have my list, run in at lunch time, do my shoppping and go back to work!
I won't even go in a Wal-Mart. I recently was in talks to get a new job because they were getting a huge new client...Wal-Mart. I was really struggling as to whether or not I should take the job if it meant creating advertising for them. Didn't get the job, so in the end it didn't matter.
Thought you guys might like some insight behind some of the products sold at certain retailers.

The company I work for designs products that are sold in Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc. Walmart sells a lot of products for us. The buyers for Walmart know how much their customer wants to spend on certain items, so we cater our products to be at a lower price point with more traditional/classic designs.

Whereas, Target we can be a little more modern with design, a little higher with price point. Bed Bath & Beyond is considered the upscale place where our items are inventoried. We create higher quality items for them with a lot of time spent on trendier designs at a higher price point.

On the plus side, ALL of the retailers we work for want us to provide earth friendlier products and want us to eliminate excess packaging. It's been a challenge, but I am certainly happy that all of them are forcing their product manufacturers to make less waste.
