The pic doesn't show much, and I regret not taking a pic of one broken in half. 3/4C sweetened condensed milk 1.5t peppermint extract 3.5-4C powdered sugar 3C semisweet chocolate chips 2t shortening in my kitchenaid mixer, I dumped the milk, extract, and sugar. Only add a little sugar at a time until it gets stiff and no longer sticky (should be like dough). I then took my smallest cookie scoop, and broke that ball into 2 two balls. Then pressed down into thin patties. The size of my smallest scoop still seemed too big of a serving, so that's why I split that. To me it's like fudge.. it's better in smaller portions. Plus this makes a million. Put on wax and at room temp, let dry out for 40 hr. Flip, and let that side dry out for another 40. Then put in freezer for 30-60 min. This is so they are cold and don't melt when you dip them in chocolate. Another reason to only do a sheet of patties at a time, so they don't all go to room temp. Microwave chocolate and shortening for 1 min. stir. put back in at 10 sec intervals until all melted. Dip in patty w/fork, then when you have your first sheet down stick in fridge to let set (and to ensure the patty doesn't melt. Everyone at the party thought they were perfect dinner after mint desserts. |

YUM!!!!! I am going to make these for some guests in a couple of weeks. After they are done, do you leave them out or refrigerate them (the patties, not the guests) ?

I LOVE York Peppermint Patties (I ate 2 bags over Christmas). Yet another reason I need to buy a KitchenAid...... |
You can do both. I had them in the fridge (for several days) b/c I was positive they'd melt at room temp. We took them out and left them out for the day (so folks can snack), and I realized they did great that way too. |
The Peppermint Patties sound so yummy! Thank you, Mrs. J for this recipe as well. |
40 hours I'd have dogs climbing cabinets to get at them if they smelled them for a total of 80 hours. |
Where do you find the time????
I can barely get our underware washed and put away. I don't have kids underfoot, and my husband is half grown. I am amazed at you!!! Oh- and this looks mighty good. |
