Marking on OES question pls help

I am trying to pick out a puppy. Actually I already have,,,she is the cutest little thing... I havent picked her up yet so I still have some choices. OK heres the question.. The OES I picked does not have a complete black back...hmmm you know how the head is white and then the color changes to black..well there is a wide white streak going down the back in between the black. Just wondering if that means that the breed is not pure or what... Also that would make her mostly white....and I have read that mostly white might mean that the dog might be deaf. Does anyone have any info on this. Most of you all pictures have an all black back area.... :( HELP ... Thanks in advance for your help.. :(

Alot of white markings CAN indicate a problem with vision and/or hearing - however - not all dogs with alot of white markings will be deaf or blind.

Have the sire/dam been tested for any genetic problems?

Have you seen the sire and dam (or at least the dam)?

Have you asked the breeder about deafness and whether or not the puppies have been tested (or if any puppy from the breeder is deaf)?

Please email me if you need any information! I know of a "breeder" that sells puppies with alot of white markings and they are known to produce deaf puppies (in deplorable conditions) - I'd be happy to discuss this with you privately.

It's hard to say from your description- I beleive that a mostly or all white head, along with both blue eyes are genetic markers for deafness TENDENCIES not 100% ever, of course. I don't remember reading anything about a specific back color being a problem. Does your pup have either of these traits?

Did you check to make sure your pups parents have their hearing certified?

Of course- talk to your breeder about your concerns. If they brush you off, you probably have a problem. Deafness is a legitimite concern, and your breeder should take your concerns seriously. If you are worried, try some hearing tests on your pup, when you go see your breeder. Perhaps someone else has some more concrete ideas on deafness testing....
