I'm HOME!

Only one day early, thats not so bad. I called and changed my flight and didn't say anything until it was a done deal.

To answer some of the questions from my last post, yes my mom lives with my sis because she is unable to care completly for herself. She is in a wheelchair because she's scared to fall as she's had two falls before which resulted in broken bones. My sister resents the fact that my mom does not do much...of anything. She lays in bed all day and watches T.V. and then is up half the night. When someone is home she is out and about and wants company because she's by herself all day.

My sister is an functioning alcoholic, meaning she holds a full time job which she's good at. She has a bf whom she is consumed by. By consumed I mean that allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll she thinks and talks about. He lives with her and my mom and my 18yo nephew who's in his senior year of HS.

My mom is pretty isolated. As I said before she is home by herself all day, she can't even go outside because of steps front and back. She has no friends and no hobbies. My sister resents the fact that she has total care of her since my sis only wants to spend time with the bf. I took care of my mom while I was there and I didn't find it THAT hard although I don't have to do it every day. Sis says I don't have any idea of what thats like. They checked out assisted living places but the only place my mom could afford is a pit.

So after spending the morning by myself, mom was sleeping, sis was up but stayed in her bedroom, I decided it was time to go home.

They are not happy with me but I don't care because I'M HOME!!!! (brrrrrr its cold here)

There's no place like home.

Sorry you've had such an ordeal. :(
Me, too Pam. Sorry it was such a bad experience, but I'd be thrilled to be home if I were you, too. There is no place like home. :D
OH so sorry!!! Like Ron said "no place like home.
Hope 2009 is better
Maybe a companion could be found to come into the home an hour or two every day just to keep your mother company and maybe do her laundry, make a meal. Of course your sister would have the final sayso afterall, it is her house! There is also adult day care where the homebound are taken to a senior citizen center for a few hours per week. It would be good stimulation for your mother.

How about a computer for your mother? A little on line chat might help her mood.
Pam, reality can be a bitch sometimes. I'm sorry it was such a dreadful trip.

Welcome home. Things will get better now.
Florida offers a number of home services fo adults and maybe some PT would help your mom get up and about.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to be in your sister's place. Sorry your trip was a bust. Home is nice :D
My mom uses a service called "Visiting Angels." Once a week Linda comes in and takes Mom to the store or other errands, does some light housekeeping, etc. I think they might be nationwide so maybe you (or your sister) could look into this for your mom. I think they charge by the hour.
It seems like adding some ramps so your mom could have more mobility and independence would help your sister a lot-- and your mom.

I mentioned that to my Mom and she said bf offered to build them for her and sis vetoed it.

After lifting my mom over the patio step one night I said "Boy it sure would be easier if there was a ramp" Sis replied sarcastically "Yeah I'll call someone to do that"

I wonder why? Hearing that, I wonder if your sister just wants to play the part of the martyr?
I'm glad you are home... and sorry the visit wasn't as you hoped.

I kind of agree with Jill-- about the martyr part.
