How many books have I read this year?

I know I read a lot of books. So the beginning of 2008 Lee told me I should keep track. And while I may have forgotten a book I think I have mostly written them all down. I'm not counting all the books I started to read but were too dumb so I put them down (lots in that category),or magazines, or all the web content I read.

I have to say I was surprised by the final count as we have moved three times this year, sold and bought a house, and are in the process of fixing up (maybe I should say tearing down) our house.

Oh yes, am I am a very slow reader compared to some in my family. Those ones (I refuse to mention) can put me to shame in reading a book in a couple of hours. Anybody else out there an avid reader?

Well if you read any of those amounts in the poll then I'm truly impressed. I can get 1-6 books if I'm lucky in a year. I shamefully admit I don't like reading much. I fall asleep once I start even when I try hard to stay awake. It's like my body knows it's bedtime ;) Now I just don't have time but want to.
I use to read a book every 3 days but somehow I have changed. I also get sleppy now if I read
Love it more in the summer.
That's a fun thing to keep track of just for the heck of it. Perfect time to start for the New Year, too. Thanks for the idea. I'm going to see if James will challenge me for the year.

I've been on vacation since December 18 and I've read 7 books just in my time off. I'm a notoriously fast reader so I can burn through a book that I like very quickly.
I read 5 books a week on average but the local library is quite small and I am finding it harder to find books I havent read. One week I read all Kathy Reichs books in order, then the next week all Karin Slaughters, now I try and find a new author each week and get 5 of his/her books which works if they are well written but sux if they arent and I have to trudge back to the library to change them all.I read really fast, especially if I like a book or author,I try really hard to slow down and make the book last a few days when the latest Kathy Reichs comes out.I limit myself to about 4 chapters a day so I can stretch out the enjoyment(but often wake at night and sneak an extra couple of chapters).
I have the same problem, always having to find new authors to read because I read so fast. If I start a book, I usually finish that day, the next at the latest. Not good when you have a tiny library. It sounds like we read the same way though. I will find something the looks good, then find all the books they have by the same author. People think I'm crazy coming out of the library carrying an armload. One of my friend's husbands saw me and asked his wife later if I actually read all the books I check out. My husband thinks I'm weird, reading so fast, he never really liked reading til he read Angels and Demons and The DaVinci Code. His favorite is Bernard Cornwell, who is just great, I had contacted him about an upcoming release that my husband wanted, and he sent him one free, signed and dedicated to John, and a bunch of other books, about $600 worth, while he was deployed the time before this one. Simply a great man. Haven't read his books yet, I'm not into history.....but if I run out theres no telling what I will read.
Not enough numbers in that poll as I read a book or mostly two every week
You guys are something else. I wish I read that much.
I read really fast too.
I also like to read in the science fiction/fantasy genre and they're really into series of 3, 4 or more books. It drives me nuts waiting for the next book in the series to be released. I often just wait till the last book is released and then buy them all.
I am NOT impatient
ButtersStotch-Yeah I think I am going to keep track again this coming year and see how I compare. I have been also noting which authors I like and don't like so I remember which ones to stay away from or go back to. Sometimes I get a new book I really like but then when I go to return it I forget the author.

Joahaeyo-Don't feel bad. My sister loves to read like me but her husband hates it. It also makes him feel really frustrated because he reads so sloooooooow and she is half way through the library. He may read one a year or less. He is more into TV and has recommended some good shows for me to get on Netflix.

lynZoes-WOWZER! That is pretty impressive. I also do the same thing. Once I find a new author I like then I go and check them all out. I never can read slower to stretch the books out. The more I am into a book the faster I go. No four chapter limit for me. :P

cyakins-Growing up my family would go to the library (there was 7 of us) and we would all check out an armful. Then we would go home and everyone one would be reading everywhere around the house. Then we would be trading books with each other and wishing so and so would hurry up so you could have that book next. They all got read. Scifi, Westerns, Fantasy, Romance, Mystery, Novels, Youth, Non Fiction. You name it. I think if you saw us walking out of the library you would be shocked too. I am also always having to find new authors.

Thats pretty cool that there are so many that like to read on the forum. Now I know I'm not alone in my addiction.
Speed reading might help you get through a book like "King Queen Knave" although I enjoy savoring my reading. I did enjoy "Invitation to a Beheading" many years ago and think of it often. :D

I haven't read a book in a very long time. I used to do a lot of reading in bed until I started to struggle to read and not fall asleep; I was also having trouble recalling the last pages that I read so I got frustrated and put it down.

I read all day long on the 'net. Before I got the mind-numbing TV thingy, that is.
I have to be careful reading in bed, I tend to stay up way later than anticipated, lol. After Riley is born, most of my reading will get done while she is feeding. Another one of the benefits of breastfeeding, you get a free hand!
I am a fast reader too. I used to read more, not as much the last few years. Of course, I DO attribute it to the increased computer time!!!!

I don't fall asleep reading - in fact the opposite. I don't dare start reading late in the evening - I will never go to sleep after I get sucked in to the book! 8O
I love to read. I have certain Authors who I check their web sites to see when their new book will be released. Maeve Binchey, one of my favs, release her book to Canana and Uk in October so I bought it there, not to be release in The States till this month. I've already read it and loved it. She is the only auther whos books I keep now. I used to buy alot of books and had a nice library, but now when I buy a book and finish reading it, I drop it off at the library and donate it. I spend a lot of time now, borrowing books from the library also. We have some fantastic libraries here in Brevard County...WIFI and all.
I have passed the love of books on to my children and all of them love to read!
I read a book or two a week. Winter I tend to read non-fiction, more fiction in the summer. I'm a librarian, but I don't buy books for personal reading. My town has a wonderful public library. Wish it were open today.

So crustybirds, how many books DID you read in 2008?

Even if I like the book I read 1-3 chaps and I'm done. May not pick it up for a couple of days, just depends on the days events.

I do that too! If I know it's going to be a series, I buy them as they are released, but I don't read them until the last one comes out. I HATE having to wait for months or a year for the next installment.

I LOVE to read and will devour a book in a few hours. Like Dawn said, I can't start reading at night or I will stay up all night to finish a book once I get involved in the story.

I tried keeping up with how many I read in a year, but I forget to write them down. I even bought a Reader's Journal to help me. But, I'm behind in that, too, and need to put in at least the last dozen or more books I've read. But, I do really like the Journal. It helps me remember what I liked and what I've read. It's a great idea and tool if I can just keep up with it.
Reading is so painful............I fall asleep while reading but have my tongue caught between my teeth. I wake up with a tongue numb and painful from lack of blood flow. I knew reading was bad for one's health!

You WHAT!! I stand in awe.
I have NO self control. If the book is in the house then it must be read. Or the bottle of wine must be drunk come to think of it. I definitely have no self control.
I dont read in bed at night for the same reason. I am a grumpy bear the next morning due to lack of sleep.
Paula O.-I read 73 books this year. I know measly compared to some of you out there. :P

Mim-Ha! That is like my husband in the way that if he starts a book he HAS to finish it. No matter how bad or painful it is. Me, if I don't like it then I then I will stop reading and it doesn't bother me.

shon-Sometimes I will be in the middle of reading 4 or 5 books. I will switch around depending on what I want to read and may even not get back to one of the books for a month or more. Lee thinks it's really odd. Mostly I will do only one at a time.

Tammy I don't know how you can wait that long. I have to make a confession...I always read the last couple of pages of a book before I begin to read it. I have to know the conclusion before I know the whole story. lol I could never wait for the final book in a Trilogy to be released before I started the series.

 I SO hear ya on that except it will be more than a few days before I pick it back up. Then I'm forced to backtrack just to remember the characters.
for those of you who fall asleep reading - try some reading glasses. Most people who fall asleep as soon as they start reading are doing so because they can't see the page well enough - even though they don't realize it.

I read a book in a couple of days when I am working or busy and a book a day on quite vacations - although when I am sick - I can't read at all. I haven't read more than a magazine since November.

I need to get to the pile of new books waiting to be read and I got more for Christmas.

I think I need to keep count this year.
I'm not sure how many books I read but I do know that it drives me nuts if I finish a book and have no new ones to start.
