I don't like this vet, it's the first time I went there because it was close and convenient and I only intended to get her shots. I feel like they're not explaining things to me properly and that I am going to get pressured into a lot of unnecessary tests... so I am going to go to another vet with the results I got from this one. However I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on whether this is urgent or can wait. Marley is active and eating and has normal stool. She's always been a little on the thin side but besides her 2 recent accidents she has not shown any indications that anything is wrong. I really don't know anything about albumin levels but any advice would be appreciated! |

I know that in humans a low albumin level is monitered from a nutrition standpoint. Low albumin can mean they are malnourished. I am not sure with dogs. I think you should find a vet that you are comfortable with and get copies of records from the old vet to take with you. There is a great topic on this forum to rate your dog food.

Hm, that's interesting. She eats California Natural and takes supplements as well, but I did just see something on Animal Planet about Wheatens having a hard time absorbing protein from their food.
I'm definitely going to get the records and take them elsewhere (probably Walter's vet in the suburbs, they are wonderful). I just hope it can wait a week or two. |
Hummm Very interesting. I have not heard of this. Please keep us informed of what is happening. Good Luck, Hope for good news!!!! |
Yes, I hope Marley is OK, and keep us posted. My albumin experience is limited, and limited to humans.
Low albumin is r/t to malnutrition, but usually with a twist. A doctor once explaned it as starving in the midst of plenty. Lots of times the person is overweight, but eating poor choices and not getting good nutrition. Doesn't sound like this is Marley. I supplement Chewie with California Natural - have researched it a lot and it is a good quality food. |
