We've had people over throughout the holidays. When we had thirty over for my staff party he greeted the first few (on a very short leash) and nearly ripped my husband's shoulder out of its socket. He then spent the remainder of the evening locked in the TV room with my husband while the party continued. This is very different for me. Portage and ThePas (the dog we lost in March) were amazing for company, and would wander through the crowd without me even having to keep an eye (well, Portage is a champion ice cube thief, but that's not a biggie). They both had excellent manners and were welcomed guests at any function. We tried Hudson with company (and two hour walks right before) each other time, but finally we had our Christmas miracle. When my family came over for brunch, he not only managed to settle down after about ten minutes of mild craziness, he even lasted the remainder of the time loose and with us. He wasn't perfect, but he didn't try to be anyone's hat either. So, I'm pleased to report that, apparently, there IS hope for Hudson. Now I'm trying to come up with all kinds of reasons for people to come over so he can keep working on those manners. I'd hate to see him lose this one little bit of progress. He's also finally getting the idea that when you are out for a walk and another dog comes by sit actually means sit. Over his lifetime sit (in that circumstance) meant jump like a maniac and try to break your leash so you can sit on the other dog's head and he/she can wear you as a hat. Ahhh, it's so nice when they start to make ya proud... |

What a great post! You should be VERY proud!!!!!!! |
GO Hudson
You give me hope that one day Tiggy can come in when we have visitors. |
Well done Hudson! Rufus is 18 months and still tries to jump on other dogs
He's the same with guests for the first few seconds, then he remembers his manners. |
Congratulations!!!!
Hudson is growing up !!!!! Isn't is great to be able to have a pupper that can be social AND behaved?????/ |
Nigel would be so much better if his big sister didn't wind him up. He is 19 months and still piddles if he sees someone he really misses...no jumping though...just other bad, noisy behavior.
Yeah Hudson...what a good sheepie!!! |
Hurray for Hudson!! That's HUGE progress for a young sheepie boy. |
Congratulations. I also never thought that would happen with Obe. He now is hyper for a few, (there are people in the house, I have to say hello and everyone must see me as well) and then settles down quite nicely. Usually as close to the one who pets the most. |
