Most OES chin hairs are going to be discolored due to the chemical reaction of the saliva. Some are darker than others & even when totally dry, some will be discolored. Washing with reg. Dawn liquid dish soap helps to break up & get rid of anything "greasy" that is residing there. Also, feeding 3 Tums a day can help by reducing the acid in their tummy. |
I like to use Photoshop to get my girls hair whiter. Sure its only works on digital photos, but the rest of the world won't now... |
That's really funny! and very clever...if Casey's beard gets brown I usually cheat and drop a few kibbles in his water bowl.
This does not yield professional results |
there is an addative that you can add to the food, made from all natural ingredience,
http://bichonhotel.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products_id=18 with billy i just shave his beard, he has a knack of being a complete scumbag. from having a drink in the kitchen then dripping all down the hall, into the living room then maybe upstairs, still dripping so i find it hygenic to just shave that bit. its ok to say just dry it but i am not always there and i can tell the route his taken after a drink as we have carpet. also try leaving your whitening shampoo on for a few minutes, put it on the beard first while brushing him then by the time his ready for the bath its had its time, but read the label some say not to leave on for too long. |
You can see in my avatar that we deal with a tea stained beard too. Plus it's usually wet all of the time. Frank is a really sloppy drinker so we chase him around the house with towels after he drinks. This has really helped in keeping his beard a little cleaner too. We also do a lot of chin washing which helps too. Unfortunately, if the dogs are predisposed to it, you won't really ever have a sparkling white chin.

Yeah! If only we could apply Photoshop to the real world, wouldn't it be an awesome place?! |

I have a product called #1 All Systems Whitening gel. It does work over TIME. Do not use an expect it to be white. It's easy on the skin and if used on a weekly basis it does work.
To be honest I kind of gave up trying to keep his chin white. He is a dog, he is going to lay in the dirt/grass. I'm not going to follow Obe around and every time he drinks and dry his mouth. Which also helps I was told. If he is just nasty, I will wipe his mouth/chin area but other than that he is going to get dirty and I'm not going to wash and dry him weekly. I do let him swim (weekly) helps a lot, in between bathes (every 2-3 months). No, he does not stink and is in great shape coat and skin wise. I could be wrong but I dont think it's good to bath every week. |
I generally bathe my dogs about every 6 weeks or so. Full body baths, that is. They don't tend to smell at all in that length of time. My show dogs get their whites bathed before each set of shows but the darks only get bathed when we do a full body bath. I do admit tho' that they are usually on concrete or washed limestone gravel (in the dog runs) most of the time. Every now & them when it's been really dry they get to run in the fenced in pool area that is grassy. So that may be one of the reasons I don't have to bathe as often. |
I bath Rufus every 6 weeks too, but he gets his legs, beard and underbelly hosed with water every day otherwise he does get smelly in those areas. Depends on the dog, but washing too often can cause skin problems.
Ru has a horrible beard, even more so since we started mixing canned food with his dry food. He is super slobbery, especially when playing and after drinking. When we go for a day out or will be around people I carry a 'beard wipe', usually an old teatowel. |
you could always take the opposite approach, and dye the sheepie to match the beard? |
Good idea with the photo shopping. It took a week to get the spaghetti stains off Abbeys chin! |
I love these replies! tee hee..use photobucket......I have the ideal answer to all your problems. Dont kow why anyone hasnt thought of it!
You need one small yorkshire terrier, brown and black if you remember dont show any dirt! Who is permanently round Summers chin in case there is a stray bit of food there, she eats the crumbs. As for the drippy chin after drinking same answer Tilly likes to get in under Summer for a drink of water so one damp yorkie head and clean sheepie beard! |

Ooooh, my BH has just gone back overseas for work. Last time he went I bought Tiggy without telling him. This time he said dont buy any more large pets while I'm away I wonder if a yorky is little enough to qualify as "a not large pet?" Mmmm maybe it could work. |
Sue that is the funniest thing I have heard in a very long time! |
