Looking into going back to school again. I have requested information from a veterinary school in Denver called Bel-Rea Veterinary Technician Training. I'm not working due to getting laid off. I would like to make a career change. So this sounds like the perfect time to do such a thing. I will know more about the school when the material arrives. I guess the major item I have to consider is can I do such a thing financially. I am going to schedule a tour of the school right after the first of the year. Classes start in Jan and March. I'm considering a March start. Anyways my question is, are you ever to old to go back to school? Learning is a life long commitment. Just curious on some of your thoughts. |

really? If I didn't have so many student loans already I would do that as well!!! I got my masters in my forties (well started in my thirties - actually finished in my thirties all but one course, switched to the PhD program, didn't finish my dissertation and they gave me a master's to make me go away) just make sure it is a legitimate propriatary school or go to the university system |
You are never too old to try something different! Go for it! Good Luck!!!! |
GO FOR IT |
It's a good school Shon. Ali started there but stuff came up so she had to postphone. You may find you are a bit older than most, but not all of the students. Good Luck on a new chapter. |
NEVER TOO old...
whenever my in-laws go on a trip, which is regularly, they like taking a class or two they can make them appreciate it more. like art history or history, etc... depending on what city/country they're going to. |
Goodness, no, you are never too old!
I went back 3 times as well, and don't regret it a bit. The 1st time was after high school like "normal", but the next 2 were after I was married and with 3 children. Bel-Rea has a good reputation. Just keep in mind that most vet techs make crappy wages, sadly. It was one of the careers I considered, but eventually changed from. |
GO FOR IT it is NEVER to late for lots of things! School included.
Good Luck |
Shon you are never to old for anything, I left my last job at 52 years of age and after over 24 years in this company. Since I have made the decision I have never looked back and I enjoy the new challange that I now have. I am a time served Shipwright and I worked in this position al my life, the last 5 years in my old company I was in the Project Management, now in my new company I am a Technical Advisor / Project Coordinator. All I can suggest is do what you think right you have the rest of your life in front of you. |
You need to talk to Ali. She was at the school last semester! It's a very well regarded vet tech school. If I remember......or we could find her posts here, she mentioned the students were mostly, or at least half, of "nontraditional age." Love that term, that's what they called me up in Ft. Collins, LOL!
I guess for me to commute from Evergreen to the school......unless they have a westside campus.....would be a killer. Go for it!!! |

First was a music institute, then normal college for business. I have always gotten good grades A's & B's, probably why my parents put up with me.

You're never to old to go back to school, college etc. As for the financial end of things have you ever looked into what the government has to offer? I dont know how long you have been laid off but my husband was laid off back in January and due to some kind of act not sure what it is called but the government will put you through school and pay for everything. It has something to do with businesses moving out of country or closing down. My husband went back to college and is earning his associates degree in HVAC. I just recently went back to college myself and got my nursing degree. You're never ever to old. To me it seemed easier this time. with age comes wisdom and the need to not want to party all the time like a teenager LOL |
I've been in school a lot longer than I've not been in school! Double major in undergrad, master's and now I'm working on a PhD. There have always been people of all ages during all my degree programs. You should definitely do it! |
Never too old. Go for it.
I have 2 degrees and have done numerous short courses and occasionally (when I can afford it) go back to my old Uni and enrol in just subject. Keeps your brain (and you) younger. I like hanging out with the younger students (if they'll let me) |
A life long learner is one who never stops. The learning can be college and advanced degrees to the odd art class or learning how to cook Thai food, as long as you continue to learn and see no reason not to, then you are a life long learner. I'm often taking classes, I didn't start college till I was nearlry 40, but even before that I have take all kinds of classes from computer classes to help me get ahead in jobs to recently a stone setting class from the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. I'm also a knitter and take classes all the time to learn more and better ways to do my craft. I'm looking for a welding class right now and I would like an upholstry class too. I take designing classes, to learn how to better design garments and construct them, to know how to better knit them. So the key is learning some love it, other see no use for it.
I think the Vet School is great and I think everyone who watches Animal Planet has heard of that vet school, so good luck in your path and Do It! |
I got my Bachelors degree at 30, and now wouldn't mid getting another. Though my busy schedule doesn't allow it right now, I'm keeping my options open for the future. |

I figured they didn't make much. I had no idea really. Just not sure what I want to do. This being the main problem. Obe said...he wants me to work from home. |
No no, you are never too old!
I just started in November an Adult Education course for IT CLAIT, make my exams to gain a better job and more knowledge and having the chance of earning more money! I love it! I could have loads of courses, it feels great to be back "at school"!! |

Yeah but did Obe mention what kind of work? I'm guessing feed Obe, play with Obe, take Obe for a walk, love Obe, brush Obe, take Obe swimming etc In other words new career option "Obe's Butler" |
