Baxter, 1 year old in Ontario, Canada

Bosley and Dixie are sharing their home with a young guest over the holidays. Baxter was surrendered into rescue over the weekend and is looking a bit overwelmed.

He is still being assessed for resource guarding potential, but we do have full history on him, from his surrendering family who had him since a Pet Store pup. He is on the smaller side, about 60 pounds but needing to gain a few more. He is actually quite calm for an OES. He will run and play with my goofs, but inside the house he is quite content to laze around and NOT chew anything. (He just turned 1 in November, so I am very impressed!).

He will be going up on Petfinder, but OES.org often has homes looking to fill with a friendly, neutered, micro-chipped, crate-trained young OES, so would be the logical place to start looking.

He will go to a family who will take him to obedience training (he is very reactive on leash with other dogs) and where there is no smoking inside the house or car. Once my battery gets charged I will post pics. He looks very much like Stacy's Fozzie.

Long time no see....

Hope he finds a great home :)

I'm so surprised he was from a pet shop! Does he have a tattoo or prior identification to show where he came from?
Holy heck, I was so confused by your post. I said... wow, haven't seen her in a long time. This must be an old thread. Is this a new thread? Is this really her?

Merry Christmas.
Nice to see you! :ghug: Merry Christmas. :ghug:
Here are a few pics of the dear boy...He is leaning against husband Don, who he has taken quite a liking to...

This is Baxter, laying out all stretched and comfortable.

Here is his side, so you can see the markings. His fur is all puffy, so everytime he goes out and back into the house he brings in snow balls all around his feet and legs.

His pet store papers say he is from London, England. Right now he is laying with his head on his paws, looking so sad and not understanding why his family has not come to take him home...: (
But he gets along fabulously with my pooches. All is nice and calm in the house, and outside they run and play.

Merry Christmas to you folks, too! :)
Hi Nicole!

Wow, he does look like he could be Fozzie's twin! 8O

Hope you have a happy holidays :D
What a beautiful face. I hope he finds a wonderful human that will make him loved forever.
Yay! Nicole's here. It must be a Christmas miracle. :)

He looks really cute. You should keep him for yourself!
MERRY CHRISTMAS :D . Baxter looks sweet.....sure you won't keep him :P . If he's coming across the border give me a call, I'm becoming an expert on crossings. Give Bosley and Dixie (and Baxter too) a big hug from me and Gabriel.

Holly and all the crazy boys
Today is my first time on here. So plz be patient with me. I live in Ohio. Is it hard to get the oes transported? Is it expensive?

I dont know why but this dog has my heart already. Can you please give me more info?
He's so adorable :)

Many rescues won't move a dog from state to state or to another country. I know it has been done, I took 2 dogs from Chicago into Canada for a friend who was keeping them. How it works is people sign up to do a leg, then pass the dog to the next person. Bless the person,(thanks Jan :) )
who puts in tons of time making secure arrangements and maintaining constant contact with each person. Try to pm Nicole for more info about this dog. She is an awesome rescue person and will help if she can.
He is beautiful...I hope someone on this org gets him...I want to see more of him.
I live 40 minutes from Milton, unfortunately we just saved an OES last year and my dad might be getting laid off. We seriously talked it over and we just can't be sure of both dogs well being a year from now things being the way they are especially since our first OES has a chronic condition and will be on meds for the rest of her life. Roxie has finally settled in and realized this is her forever home. As it is when we take her to the groomers or anywhere foreign she freaks out when we leave thinking we're abandoning her (she's been through 5 homes).

But I'm also watching our neighbors. They got a 5 week OES and they have a BAD history with dogs. I think he might be abandoned within a year just like their last dog coco. Their good people and re-homed coco themselves but they just don't know how to care for dogs.

Sorry, I hope someone else will take him because he's just beautiful and I would love nothing more than to take him. But I'm sure for that reason alone that he'll have no trouble finding a new home, if he hasn't already :)

Good luck!
Just a bit more on Baxter.....He is being very carefully watched for resource guarding. He doesn't guard stuff from people...only dogs, but I haven't really seen a lot of it... maybe because I am being way too carefull...LOL....He also has had no training, so we are starting from scratch with "sit" and "off" and "down". Maybe once he understands the concept of rewards for good behavior we will work up from there.

However, he and Dixie were caught chomping down on some dead animal in my yard, that surfaced after the big thaw we had. They were side by side, sharing like some coyotes..! Dixie gives in to any dog, so maybe Baxter would be fine if he can bully a submissive dog away from his stuff.

I am trying to get a handle on the mats he has...He was groomed every 6 weeks, but not touched between sessions, and he is also changing over from his puppy coat, so quite the disaster. There is one large one that goes all around his neck, where his collar was. It is about 3 or 4 inches wide, and the same thickness. He also has lots of thick mats on his hindquarters. and his paws. I almost think I will need to shave him....If a local breeder would be willing to give an opinion, and help in that area I would be happy to bring him over and act as assistant. Otherwise a shave down it will be....Poor dear...in this weather.

Baxter is very reliable unsupervised...He doesn't get into anything...But he is starting to get his frisky sheepie character out....stealing my socks and running away from me waving the prize in the air... He also loves people, and has major butt wiggles for everyone who comes over.

I took him out for a walk on a haltie and he was great. We did not meet any dogs, though, and I was told that would be an issue. We'll see how that pans out over the weekend, when I will try again. Off leash, however, he is great and runs and plays with my dogs very well.

A couple people have asked me about adopting out of the area. The only way that could happen is if Baxter turned out to be an easy dog, and an OES Rescue local to the adoptive area would agree to helping out if any problems did arise. Transporting would probably not be an issue. But right now Baxter is still being assessed, and I can't see placing him far from here the way things look right now. Still too much unknown and it would be way easier for him to be placed close to me, where I can help get him settled into a new home..That might change, though.
Hi Nicole! :D

Oh, he is so cute! He totally is Fozzie's twin. I hope he finds a perfect home...
Baxter has pretty well settled in to our house and routine. He is not obedience-trained at all, so I am just doing in the basics...sit, down , wait etc with him.

Here are Baxter, Dixie and Bosley waiting patiently for a treat.

Image

It was difficult to keep Baxter sitting still, so we did a down instead...Worked a bit better. Here they are again, waiting impatiently..."hurry up with the picture already!"

Image

Then we are getting supper ready, and to avoid any scraps over food they are kept on the other side of the gate...

Image

After dinner, Baxter found Dixie's bed, which is right under my computer. He sniffed it out, tried the pillow and found it nice. She was not impressed at all but I don't think he cared at all.

Image

Baxter was quite tired out, as we did a short trip to the dog park, to see how he would do. I am very happy that he did very well, was quite polite with the dogs, even an annoying doodle that kept growling and pestering him. We didn't stay long, as I just wanted to assess him in that environment. We stopped at the grocery store for 5 minutes, and left him in the car while I watched from the window. No surprises there, he just lay in the back seat and had a snooze.

For a 1 year old pup he sure is calm. Not the energizer bunny that I remember Bosley and Dixie being. And Baxter even needs to be half-lifted into the car....while mine just jump in like deer. He is a lazy sort, I think..LOL..No fear of him jumping over baby gates...!

So all in all, my fears of problems with this boy has subsided. He gets very ansty when eating and he hears one of the other dogs, so he will need to be fed on his own or in his crate. There are a couple toys laying around the house that he has picked up to play with but I would not trust him to want to share any.

But he is a dream to walk! What a nice change...!
I'm really surprised he was from a pet store, and even more surprised they claim he is from the UK... seems odd, and he looks nothing like the UK dogs at all.
Hello,

I am new to the forum and wanted to express my interest in rescuing/adopting an old english sheepdog. Please let me know if I can be of help or have information regarding this. Thank you.
Oh he is so adorable, Nicole! What a precious puppy!! Looks like he's doing really well in your home, too. It's so nice to see Dixie & Bosley again. They look great. :D
