Well, as you may know, the breaded collie is a very rare breed, perhaps related to the dreaded collie - we really don't know - and perhaps the dreaded collie is a very timid breed? Little is known at this time...

Sorry, shouldn't tease you. 8) That's a common typo.

More seriously - how old is your girl? Have you had her since a puppy or was she rehomed or...? If you had her from a puppy, how was she raised in terms of exposure to other people? If not, do you have any information on how she was raised and why she was relinquished?

Does she just spin or does she display any other behavior as well?

Is she spayed, and, if yes, how old was she when she was spayed?

I.e. what do you know about her background? That may help point to some clues as to why she is apparently fearful around new people. How does she react when people come to your home and things like that? Is it only while she's out walking or just generally in public or...?

Thanks!
Kristine
ditto all of Kristine's questions.

Some resources to look at include:

Shyk9 and control unleashed Yahoo lists.

also a vet work up is in order - maybe a behvioral vet? they can determine if the condition is clinical. If it is medication(s) can be in order. they can work wonders!!!!! but need to be used in conjunction with trainig in most cases to unlearn previous coping behaviors.

the most important thing to do is work on strengthening your relationship so your dog knows they can count on you when they are frightened. and you may not want to hear this, but you also need to avoid anything that scares her for a while as you work on teaching her proper coping skills.

these are just a few things off the top of my head. please feel free to ask questions
:D where are you in the Uk? Have you tried dog training classes they can build up the dogs confidence and yours as well....
Kristine is right on!

As for Bearded vs. Breaded Collie, common mistake. I'm surprised she didn't ask if you serve tartar sauce with the Breaded Collie........as she said, Old Joke. Very, very common mistake........one I've made more than once.

I hope your girl can overcome her problems. Being a herding breed, she is more sensitive to movement and people, but with the right training with professionals and your quiet but continued training, she should overcome this.

I had an Irish Wolfhound who would do this. At home she was a #1 watch dog, but take her into public areas she'd melt into a quivering puddle. Took awhile but eventually she became a very social dog.
