I am finding that I am growing less and less interested in meats as the years go by. Even now... just fish and some chicken is all I seem to like that would be the "meat" of my meals. I know I always ate it before.. and know what dishes I used to like.. but maybe tastes change as you grow?? |

I'm turning away from meat as well. Not sure what it is, but I don't crave it. When we go out, I never get it ......except fish. If it comes with meat, like a salad, I ask them to remove it because it's like eating the big pickle that comes on the side of your dish to me. More painful than enjoyable to eat and really there just to make the dish nice. We eat chicken 90% of the time here, but I LIKE when it's made by me. I also make red meat whenever a recipe calls for it since I'm not actually trying to avoid it, but usually end up eating the side dish that night for dinner. my husband doesn't care for red meat.
I never thought i'd go from being a meatlover pizza girl to just enjoying a cheese pizza. |
So I am not totally crazy!! WHEW...
I totally relate to all you said, and I am not trying to avoid it either.. just not interested. I will eat all the other items at meal time and maybe 'pick' at the red meat if i feel I need to... My hubby wouldn't give up meat unless he was paid to do so Meatlovers Pizza.... ACK!! That is what hubby and the boys get. Me -- I prefer vegees and cheese.. or maybe a tiny bit of pepperoni but not the other stuff, no thank you. |
I think what happens is your body changes the way it handles certain meats as you age. I find I still get hungry about once a month for "red" meat. Something in it that our bodies can't produce or can't do without. I rarely eat a steak. And I have never been a really big pork fan other than a ham at the holidays. I eat more chicken than anything & some fish or shellfish here & there. I figured out one day that when I eat the chicken or fish I am comfortable. The red meat & pork always produce a small problem of one kind or another. So it's just easier to avoid them most of the time. As for pizza..............I'm all for plain or just veggies. Of course my favorite is Lorenzo's Spinato pizza (cheese, fresh spinach & fresh sliced tomatoes). |
I think as we age our taste does change. I too eat alot more chicken then any other type of meat. I can't even stomach the red meat counter at Wal Mart...grosses me out the way it is packaged and I can really smell the red meat when i get near the counter. I have no problem at Winn Dixie..I don't know. I do also buy alot of pork..no fish, I'm allergic. On Pizza, which I don't have very often, I prefer Cheese and Mushrooms. I was a vegitarian for about three years...my sister still is one. |
I could eat beef every day. I love fish. I'm meh about chicken and don't care if I ever eat pork again (except bacon or Honey Baked Ham). What I'm finding is that I can't eat as much as I used to. I get full much faster. |
Seems like a treat. We also eat mostly fish, chicken ,very little pork, I had made a prime rib for our Ann. had only a small amount. This morning the dogs had some cut up. What a waste. I get what I need in my B-12 shots each month. I do like some casseroles with good ground beef though.
Wounder why our tastes change. Can't stand sweets too. |
I should be a pro at this since I always end up dating vegetarians. One girl would eat fish the other two would not touch any type of meat. Would not even put it in their grocery cart for that matter. I have cut back on my meat consumption. If I do eat meat it's chicken or fish.
In the past ten years I have learned to eat a lot of different vegetables. When first moved to Co I ate corn and green beans. I know, corn not a veg. I did go almost 5 years without eating any meat. I will admit that after that long of not eating meat it took my body a while to adjust to eating it again. Am I now a vegetarian? No, but I only eat it maybe a couple of times a week. It is mostly fish, chicken, or on "rare" occasion pork. Cheese pizza with some vegetables always. Never a meatlovers pie. Did my body/taste for meat change? Yes. I would rather go to a mediterrian, vietnamese, or pasta style restaurant than a steak house. Sorry mom! Do I have the craving for meat? Sometimes but I hardly ever eat red meat. It has been months since I've had a burger or steak. Most of the change had to do with...hey I'm fixing blank and blank for dinner if you want to eat. If not go somewhere else. So I just got accustomed to not eating meat over the years. I'm still not very fond of tofu but have been tricked into eating it and asked for seconds. So sometimes I like it, depending on how it's cooked. Could I go back to being a vegetarian? Yes, and it would not bother me a bit. |
You people are SO lucky.I am fructose intolerant and have no choice but to stick with a rigid diet of only allowed vegetable , potatoes and the only fruit I get away with is the occassional piece of pineapple and a banana once a month. So I eat red meat a lot from no other choice.Cant eat most chicken, occassionally find a supplier who doesnt feed them grain, and then I can eat eggs as well.
Cant eat wheat, cooking oil, milk or dairy, soy (glad about that one),bread, salad,my beloved veggies,I can eat some gluten free bread (yay),so ENJOY your veggies for ME!!!I envy you. |
OH NO..... WOW. That's soo much to remember-- I am not sure I would ever get it right and be ablet o eat!!! I can't imagine having to check EVERYTHING before deciding if I could eat it!
You don't have it easy, that's for sure!! |

That really does suck. I'm so thankful that I don't have it that bad. I love food so much. Sometimes I eat so fast and much that I don't even know what I unwrapped b/c the picture looked so good, so I can't imagine having to actually read the ingredients. |
My daughter turned vegan within the past year, and has started dating a man who is also vegan, luckily. His reasons were different from hers, though - he is a cancer survivor and after his treatments, he researched how to eat better to stay healthier. She, on the other hand, just decided she wanted to harm animals no more.
Makes holiday cooking interesting! I made her a tofu turkey for Thanksgiving, and for never having made it before, I thought it turned out pretty good - and more importantly, she liked it! Got the recipe from www.allrecipes.com. She also gave me another site, in case anyone is interested: www.vegweb.com. |
Its not actually a hassle reading ingredients, other than the g/f bread,I dont eat anything processed.Sometimes I sneak a little chocolate.Other than that its the bread, eggs, meat, potatoes, rice, peppermint tea, white sugar,Just nothing with FLAVOR!!!
Its still a learning process and many things are dose related so I can occassionally have small tastes of other foods but fruit and vegies are out, completely, sadly.I miss veggies so much.I could happily live on veggies. No nuts allowed either and most herbs are full of fructose,so is honey. No sodas,no real tea, coffee,(even fake coffee),my choice of beveriges is water or peppermint tea so I drink about 10 cups a day.It makes your mouth feel like you just brushed your teeth. You get used to it. |
I've been a vegetarian for about 14 years now, so have learned to get pretty creative with my cooking and restaurant ordering. My co-workers still laugh at some of my restaurant requests......
That said, I do not do alot with soy based ingredients. I have a few tofu dishes and work with tvp, but other than these two items I use beans, nuts, and cheese to get my protein and flax for my omega threes. Still, any questions you have, give me a holler. |
