Crate vs Dog

I didn't want to do it, but after all of the blinds in the house have been torn down we got PJ a crate. He has taken to it much beter than anticipated. On rare occassions he will even go lay down in it on his own, usually half in and half out.

On the third time of crating him he learned how to open the crate with his paws, so we come home and the big blinds in the living room have been torn down and chewed up once again.

He is a really really good dog. Just wondering if anyone has a good way to seal up acrate. I thought about two small padlocks but I dont want to have anything that requires a key. I have thought about zip ties, but he will probaly chew them off to. ANy ideas????

what kind of crate do you have?
If you have metal crates, try using big metal clips (you can get them at the hardware store). You just clip the door to the body of the crate in a couple of places or depending on the type of handle on the door, clip the handle & the dog can't flip open the door. I do this with the gates in the dog runs as I always have a girl that figures out how to flip the latch.
Oh another smart, naughty sheepie. No advice, but others I am sure will have many good ideas to help you out. Sometimes these sheepies/Aussies amaze me. 8)
All 3 of my dogs are crated, I cant see how they could open them !!
One has a pull up latch out stde of the crate and the other has 2 push through latches. Got me how he opens yours. Can we see a pic?
We lovingly call Pirate, Houdini. His crate has doors on three sides. He rams the doors until the door bends (honest) and opens. By time it opens, he has gone the whole length of the kitchen.

We have resorted to putting locks (with keys) on all the doors. I hate it, but its the only thing that keeps him in, and out of harm's way.
Carabiners might work too.

You need to make sure there's very little play though... you don't want to create a safety issue. Not sure if they make them small enough...
Jaci! that is a great idea! I hate the lock and key thing. My poor little prisoner Pirate!
they make hte quick locks fairly strong - we use various sizes with Pirate the Macaw - who can if given enough time dismantle them - don't think Pirate the OES can do the same:)
I am stumped on that one. The latches on Jenny's crate go over and then turn in and it has a hook on the end. If she ever figures that out I am in big trouble. She doesn't seem to mind her crate at all, that's her "room".

Jaci, I finally bought these yesterday. Today is the first day using them. I hope they work, because I love them. I never felt comfortable "locking" Pirate in a crate.

Monday, he broke out again, and ate a 32 oz plastic container of homemade spagetti sauce that was thawing on the kitchen counter. He didn't eat the container, but actually licked it clean. There wasn't a trace of sauce anywhere in the house. I bet the girls were really angry as they watched him enjoy it.

I wish I didn't have to crate them. But they just aren't trustworth
Did Pirate get sick from the sauce?

Surprisingly no. When we found out what happened, I gave him an amodium right away, as a preventative measure.

I was worried...but he did really well. But now he walks around humming the theme from the Godfather movie, and say, Take the gun, leave the canneoli.
