Snow begets snow

"With a locked-in jet stream mixing arctic air with moisture-laden storms from the south, the snow cover from Dec.1 contributed to the snowstorm on Dec.3, which helped the storm on Dec.9 and the dump on Tuesday and the wallop on Friday."

"Another storm tonight...4-7inches to be followed by brutal wind chill"

These are quotes from our local newspaper. We are being pummeled here. More snow expected on Tuesday. Don't anyone forget about us by spring when we finally get dug out.

Gosh, I love winter....not. :x

We still are waiting for the guy to come plow us out. And more to come.
Big thing we both are sick with bad colds.
He says he will be here tomarrow morning ( Sunday) after that we can do it on our own with the lawn tractop (John Deer) we have a plow attchment.
Global cooling.

No kidding.

I was actually looking forward to global warming. Instead we have windchill advisories in December!!!

A foot of snow on Friday, anothe six inches or so overnight and today. I'm getting mighty fed up here. Last year I'm pretty sure it was at least January and maybe even February before I started whining...

All that new powder and can't even go skiing. Seven dogs to keep from going nuts. Oh, joy. My two youngest girls are in coat and have to be bribed to come in. But even the boydog and the foster came bolting in the minute I opened the door this morning and almost ran over my older girls who are all relatively naked, at least relative to -20 or so below.

Are we having fun yet? 8)

Kristine
Fun - not yet! :(

All this snow and too cold to go out and enjoy it.
We are sitting at -8, with a -34 wind chill. All my shovelling from last evening is gone. And I have to shovel, as I don't know how to run this current tractor we have. And Todd is up north fishing until Tuesday.
We have gotten soo much snow the last few days and the weather is soo bad that Friday all the schools closed at noon and sent the kids home, the Army base closed down (non-essential personnel) at 2 pm and stores were closing too...

Today (sunday morn) we have even MORE snow and chruches all acrossed the area are closing and not having services. It is almost comical seeing all the church names scrolling across the TV screen stating who is having service and who is not...

They say we are in for even more tonight into tomorrow. They say 12 to 18 inches in the next 24 hours.

(Did I mention I am NOT fond of snow, btw?)
I don't think we are to get snow but the temps are to drop & the wind is to get really bad so that will give us negative windchill temps. Then starting Wed.....it is supposed to be in the 50's & rain for 4 days!!!!! And they wonder why everyone in Ohio is SICK????????????

Well, then you live in the wrong part of the world. I remember driving home from Potsdam one Sunday evening. I was fine till I got to Watertown. Then all hell broke lose. I wanted to grab a motel room, but my Dad convinced me I'd be fine. Yeah, right. Fine for someone who's driven over the Alps multiple times in winter. Scaredy-cat me, not so much.

I get on I-81 south and three exits down I already counted 7-8 cars in the ditch. I just kept trucking. The usual 1 1/2 hour drive took me 6 hours. Most of it either driving 15 miles an hour in a complete white-out in my little Golf. Every so often an 18 wheeler would go by and I'd be able to follow his tracks and lights for a little while, till he left me in his, well, snow wake. I couldn't get off because all of the exits were closed till I hit Syracuse. By the time I pulled into the driveway, my hands were permanently locked to the steering wheel. It took me ten minutes just to get out of the car.

That was 20 years or so ago and I still break out in a cold sweat when I see three or more snowflakes congregate. So, no, I'm not living in a very appropriate place EITHER. Though Wisconsin gets about 1/4-1/3 of the snow upstate NY gets, what they forgot to mention was that we RECYCLE snow. Because it's so darn flat here, every time the wind blows, it all comes back. I have incredible snow drifts in the back yard and driveway. Far above and beyond what has actually come down from the sky

And, yeah, Dawn, I shoveled for several hours last night before it got dark/started snowing again and I couldn't get out of the drive way right now to save my life. I have someone who plows, and though he normally does a decent job, this year he's done as little as he could as late as he could and has generally make more work than he's cleaned up

And today is OFFICIALLY the first day of winter??? Oh, boy, gonna be a long one.

Happy Winter Soltice.

Kristine
:D I can sure relate to your story, Kristine! I've driven through so much awful winter weather that I now refuse to go anywhere if snow is forecast. 8O

I remember being on the Coquehalla, the highest road in Canada in a storm and being in tears by the time I reached the tollbooth. I was so happy to see someone I didn't mind the toll! Now the toll has been ended so when you're at the Summit, there's nothing there! Very scary.

I haven't been able to visit Merlin in the Okanagan since the storms started: they have about 4 times the snow we have and the road there is treacherous in winter. Luckily, he's doing well. He had an acupuncture session this past week. 8) I wouldn't mind one myself after all the shovelling!
OK I now no longer envy your sheepie in the snow photos,I will settle for sheepie at the beach photos and be grateful!

Oh Yes! We are right IN watertown!! Just below us (where you drove) the the 'Tug Hill region'.... it is always, always bad thru there this time of year. JUST like you wrote!! Exactly!!

We ventured out last night (had a function we HAD to go to) and decided to stop at walmart on the way home, since we were going to drive right past it. OMG!!! The roads and the idiot drivers!! I have not seen hubby that pissed off at other drivers in a long, long time. you get some who think they can drive like it is a normal day-- so they are reckless and take too many chances, then there are those who a totally freaked out and driving even slower than they should. (NO JOKE there was one car going litterally 20 MPH and taking up BOTH lanes by driving in the center of the road) It was worse trying to drive near her/him because the driving was soo erratic that you weren't sure what they were going to do next!

AAGGHH.... Is it spring yet?
