Today Rufus got in his crate all by himself for the FIRST TIME EVER!! We have had him for 15 months from 8 weeks old, and we have always had to entice him into his crate with a big treat to get him in there, even at night. He had never, ever gotten in there on his own. If we put food in, he stretches his back legs out the door so we can't close it while he is in there eating (we wouldn't do that anyway, we just sometimes put the food in to make him like it in his crate but it never worked) The last 4 nights we have had him out of his crate at night, he has been sitting on the bed until we turn the light off, then he jumps off by himself and sleeps on the floor next to the bed. This morning Greg got up and let Ru out before going to work. He put Ru back in the bedroom with me and I fell asleep. I woke up later and could hear Ru sleeping. I sat up wondering where he was, I could hear him but not see him... I went to his crate and he was sleeping in there!!! GOOD BOY!!! |

YYEEAAHHH Ru!!! |
Now thats a XMAS gift
Good boy! |
That's wonderful news!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm starting to wonder if Yuki should be in a crate. I'm getting sick of her trying to steal my space in bed whenever I go pee at night. |
What a good boy!
Chewie loves his crate. He goes and lays in it frequently. It is the one on the porch - it probably helps that it is cool out there and he loves that. |
That Ru is one smart sheepie, to stretch himself out so you couldn't close the crate door. lol I love Ru! I am happy to hear that he can now be trusted out and that, on his own, he will lay in his crate. |
Summer always hated her crate. Neither of them can get upstairs at night there is a baby gate at the foot of the stairs. So they sleep anywhere downstairs, sofas, behind the front door. On guard you see! |
duffy has never gone in the crate till now to go steal the little ones toys and treat |
I stopped making stella sleep in her crate for a while now- only because she loves to stretch out at night and no matter how big the crate is- it won't accommodate monster girl while stretching- but the funniest thing is- I think she feels like she is getting away with something by not being in the crate so every morning as I begin to wake up- she makes a dash for the crate and settles in like she has been there all night haha |
woohoo for Rufus.
that Stella is a clever sheepdog |
Woohoo, Ru! That's such a good feeling. After the horrible time Clyde had with the crate, every time Owen goes in happily or sleeps in there on his own, James and I look at each other and smile like he did the best trick ever! |
Good Boy Ru!!!! Santa's gonna bring ya a nice pressie !!!! for being a good boy!!! |
Yay fantastic Ru
As I read your story I was laughing and thinking about the fact that it was after some nights of not having to sleep in his crate that it suddenly became more attractive and then I read the story about Stella and thought Yep stubborn, pig headed, funny sheepies. |
Good boy, Rufus!! |
Yeah....Rufus!!!!
Chauncey has always made his nest with us and Bob & I have become contortionist's at 50. Chaunce makes sure he is comfortable and Bob makes sure he's covered and comfortable ( dog has more blankets than I do ), then Chauncey will root into the down covers. If Chauncey moves during the night or if I give up and go to the couch, he comes looking for me with blankets draping over him. Without missing a beat he crawls up on the couch with me, nugges me over for a spot and is still covered. We live in a relatively moderate climate compared to most of you, it's been cold with (-) wind chills this week but our house is warm....too warm for me. Conversely he loves to be out in the snow and it's a struggle getting him in???? |
