What Did You Get Your SO for Christmas/Hanukkah?

I figured most of us are done, and if we share...maybe we can some ideas for next year! Each year its harder to figure out what to get Tony. So, here is his gift list for this year (glad he doesn't read this site!)

8) 1. A Tommy Bahama shirt (of course. He has a collection!)
:dreidel5: 2. A tee shirt from TAP (The Atlantic Paranormal society)

:D 3. Old fashioned carroller candles
:dreidel5: 4. Season 2 of the X-Files

:) 5. The most marvelous SIGG reusable water bottle (alum) I actually bought one for everyone in the family, including myself! Cuz, we're getting greener now.

What did you get yours?
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
Hey! I would like a TAPs tee as well! We have Most Haunted over here, it's similar but a bit different :D

I got Greg some waterproof hiking boots, now he has no excuse not to walk Ru
we went the shared gift route and bought the sound system for the living room.

I also bought him the victoria Stillwater training book  as he likes to watch her show (can't imagine why :D )
I got Dave a digital camera. I would have liked to have gotten him something a little more personal, but his broke a few months ago and he loves taking pictures so I wanted him to be able to do that again.
I got mr. j:

iphone which he turned on today
travel scanner for when he goes offshore
business cards, business card holder for his pocket as well as business card holder for his desk
lots of stocking stuffers for office stuff (joke stuff like games to put on your desk)
nike shoes
p90x (workout series)
digital frame to put on his desk at work

I guess I screwed my husband b/c he gave me:
a doggie!!!
grooming table
...and yesterday mr. j surprised me by professionally getting dvd player installed w/wireless headsets b/c we we're idiots and didn't get it when we bought the minivan
...and lots of stuff for the dog that mr. j doesn't know he got me but they were more like christmas gifts for myself ...for the dog ;)

Kind of stinks we each got our gifts a tad early.

My kids have 4 and is it 10?? oz bottles. They think it's cool to open, and I think they're just cool looking. They don't drip so that's great!

I bought the 20 oz bottles. They are really beautiful! I picked a different design for each of us. My daughters has the sport type flip top...the rest have screw on tops. I think I'll order the flip top for myself. Did you buy the cleaning tablets? I didn't and wonder if I should have.
What is the Atlantic Paranormal Society? Does this mean Tony is only partly normal?
I've had mine for a year and haven't needed it. Maybe I should?!?! They do clean well though with a simple soapy sit in and rinse. They just use theirs for water.
Paula O. wrote:

Oh course he's only partly normal! He married me, didn't he??? TAPS is a group of Ghosthunters. They have a reality (?) tv show on the Scifi channel. We both love it.

And yes, I'm assuming lunch is on!
brian and i have gotten too pragmatic over the years.....this years gift is the new headboard and dresser, plantation shutters in the front bedroom and a newly painted living room and front bedroom......

but i did get my nose job....lol...
This year I got Scott:

* 2 pair military boots (these things are danged expensive!!) and they never last as long as you want them too. Guess all the roadmarching and ranges and travels to Iraq will do that to your boots!

*a new jimmie johnson t shirt (He loves his NASCAR)

*new slippers (the others had hole in bottom)

*and an amazing watercolor painting.... he knows about this one. He picked it out and I went back later and bought it for him.
Ya gotta buy your own boots used for deployment?

What else?
Uniforms?
Bullets?
Yep.. we buy it all. Well NOT THE BULLETS... ha ha

When the soldier is deployed to Iraq they give them one uniform and one set of boots. They took all their other sets too of course, the ones he uses daily. They say they will replace items needed throughout the deployment... however Scott was in Iraq 15 months and all he ever got replaced was SOCKS (maybe t-shirts too, I'm not sure) I mailed him the other stuff as he asked me for it. I could get it cheaper here on post than they could get it at the supply place in Iraq.

When they are in garrison (here in the States) they buy their own gear. You get one set when you arrive to post and after that... you are on your own. We recently bought his ribbons and stuff for his 'dress' uniform because he needed to attend a function and to get all the right items we paid over $180-- for a 2 hr event.

So he got boots for Christmas. He didn't mind. He needs them. He walks alot. (he knows he's getting them- BTW)
Good ideas! :D

Robbie's getting 1) crocs (actually, he already got them), 2) a Christmas ornament he picked out when we visited The Biltmare House a few weeks ago, and what he doesn't know is he's getting 3) a Papason Chair, which he's wanted ever since I've known him.
It's so easy with DH. He's an avid history reader, so books are always welcome. This year he made a list, drat! I'm pretty good winging it on my own. Little did I know this year's list came from a book on US Presidents he refers back to frequently. Problem: his list was for books no longer in print! Fortunately i-net used book sellers via Amazon had them almost every time, tho I did draw the line at $325 for a book! 8O I only splurged on an antique book once, years ago, because it mentioned one of his ancestors.....thankfully most of his family hasn't done a lot that is worthy of mention,

So aside from books, he's getting 2 obscure operas on DVD (his request), new work boots, and a night shirt (yes, he likes those). I purposely didn't make a list for him this year just to see what he comes up with. I'm tired of telling him what, this year I wanted a surprise. (good or bad). Oh I did hint I'd like the new James Patterson book for Christmas evening reading and I know that's coming because he stopped me from buying that the other day.
Ummm, nothing yet!

And I have no idea what to get this year. :(
Last year was easy - he had been admiring his brother's headlamp for coonhunting. I called him, got the model number and went shopping at Cabelas.
Guess I better get hopping!
3 days of unadulterated golf.

First day, Golftec, where a computer analyzes his swing and form.

Second day, Lessons with a PGA golf pro, 18 holes of golf.

Third day, 9 holes with the pro and 9 holes to practice.

All three days in Las Vegas late March. (hope it doesn’t snow)
How much is a pair of boots?

(And would Darcy or Jill wear them?)
James's birthday was today so I had to contend with that first. I usually buy one big stash and try to split accordingly. This year I bought him under armor and some good winter boots because he's been doing competition target shooting. I had planned to give him the boots for Christmas but considering we had nearly a foot of snow to shovel today and he didn't have winter boots, I would've been a jerk to not give them to him today! I have him a bunch of Blurays, clothes and some other stuff so it wound up being a big birthday haul for him. I didn't want to spend any more for Christmas but now I feel like I have to since I plucked the boots out of the Christmas gifts!
Dale and I are doing the practical route this year, too. My birthday was last month and his is tomorrow, so we decided that getting Sammie and some new stuff for her would be our birthday presents. Then we painted our living room and the old furniture didn't match, so we bought ourselves a new sofa/loveseat set and a new area rug. But, of course, he's not happy unless there's something to open on Christmas (for both of us) so we're just doing little things for under $100 each.

The "problem" is that if we need/want something during the year, we just get it - so there's no waiting to use it as Christmas ideas. Yeah, well. Life's too short.

Okay, I'm going to show my stupidity here - Tammy, what's a Papason chair?
Jill - I have the same issue with Todd's birthday - his is January 4th. :(

I do the same - buy stuff and split it between the 2 days!
What wounderful gifts :D I did enough shopping ( you all know ware) Richard loves the new coffee maker ect. I guess buying things has gotten to the point of just buy what we want. NOT FUN on Xmas morning.!!!
Of all the things............ i'm furnishing a 3 br apartment in Korea............ lol. But that's okay after 4 years in Iraq in a small tin hooch i cannot complain............

But i'm excited i put 2 'unkonwn' items in his box today and sent it off (yikes expensive!!!) I bought him a desk photo frame...........(i don't know what its called) and uploaded all the pictures from here at the home, Rocky Mtn National Park in the fall with all the elk, deer , Big Horn sheep, chipmonks etc., all the dogs, the house this morning with the hore frost all over the place........., he will REALLY be surprised with this. I thought this would give him a 'piece' of home back here.

THEN the other night we were talking and he was saying he didn't have a clue what to ask his landlord he was paying for in his rent etc. (DUHHHHHHH) or couldn't understand or ask anyone else anything......... I went online and bought him a LINGO......... NEAT tool.......... it came today and has 20 languages in it, you can exchange currency and much much more!! you just type in what you want to know and pick a language! He is going to be excitd about this.......... i may need to get one for when i travel!!
Well the 1st two gifts my husband got me for x-mas, i have already returned :P Lets just say he's VERY bad at keeping secrets and also VERY bad at buying things that I'll actually use  I've learned not to be offended by this, but accepting of the fact that it will be VERY hard for him to surprise me in a good way  Lets see he got me a laptop(for school, presumably) but really not needed as we already have 2 desktop PC's at home and my college has a computer lab in every building. So i returned it and got him this weird antique German gun he's been wanting. Then he got me a 4th generation iPod in purple, my 2nd favorite color. But i already have the 3rd Gen iPod in blue, my 1st favorite color and an iPhone. I tried out the purple one but besides having a larger screen and shutting off when u wanted it too, i hated the "guts" of it, and returned it and bought him a black one, since he didn't have one!

Now that i think about it, maybe this was his master plan. Buy me expensive, albeit needless gifts, and in return he gets expensive albeit needless gifts 8O

Oh well, i guess! Its hard to do x-mas shopping when, during the year, if you want something you just get it  He says he's gotten me other "surprise" things but IDK. He has just discovered the world of paint ball so i got him so stuff for that. Which paint ball gets expensive with all the gadgets and gear he just "knows" he has got to have :D

'Tis the season to be Jolly and not look at your check book balance until income returns come in

Owen helped me pick between the movies so he was partly responsible for the split this year. He really wanted to hang out while I wrapped and seemed fascinated by what I was doing so I put all the movies on the floor and told him to touch the three we should give James for his birthday. He picked the X Files, Tropic Thunder and the Dark Night. Excellent choices since they were the three out of the six I bought that I wanted to see first!
Got hubby a voucher for a dive with the sharks at Melbourne Aquarium 8)

Something different you might say

Hard to get something different as being married for so long, hard to find a surprise and something different. He loves scuba diving so this is something different & unusual. Hope they don't think of him as bait 8)

Me I am hoping for a Sky Dive voucher strapped to some hunk when I take that first time tandem jump. I've dropped plenty of hints  At christmas for that or better be my Birthday
Owen is pretty smart but he's an OES so thats to be expected.

Dawn get your rear in gear before everything is gone.

Ali, I love those gifts, especially the language one.

For Dh this year I got a new heating blanket since the last one died. Two new sweaters and one shirt, a radio thingy he wanted and bought and I get to wrap, and I need to get things for his stocking. Hmmm, not too good, guess I still have to shop!
oooooooo LISA!!!!

***I**** want the one you gave your husband!!!!!

I sure hope Norm likes his 2........ he better! along with the flannel sheets and the plastic covering (with hair dryer... hmmm i didn't send a hairdryer!) for his windows...... some trail mix and some hot cocoa mix.

I usually go buy myself 3 dozen roses......... lol and put it on his credit card. it will be interesting to see if i get anything......... probably not. He has never been a 'gifter' . The first give he ever gave me was an Iron.......

okay the wind has started in in ernest here. snow before dawn.
doggies all tucked in for the night in their crates.
nite
This thread is really interesting! It's almost like watching everyone else opening their presents, I hope there is a "So what did you get?" thread after Xmas day :D :D :D

I can't believe the hero's have to buy extra boots themselves that sucks.
We don't buy Christmas gifts for each other usually anymore. Most times we take a nice vacation or something like that. A few weeks ago I got new tires for the van. :D No comments, please! They will make it possible for me to get to the dog shows! Then Jim decided he wanted a new & bigger TV for the bedroom! So he got that. Only problem was that it is of course HD but he got upset with our cable company when they wanted another $11.00 a month for another HD receiver!!!!! So he has a new TV that is HD capable but no HD!. So....I stopped after work yesterday & placed an order to have the HD receiver installed on his new TV. He gets a card stating the same with the appt. date, wrapped up in a box!

:D :D :D :D

sorry he sounds just like my hubby. we bought a high end HD tv when we moved here (prices were much higher then) and he won't pay for HD service - so I do :) :)
Oh I was a very bad girl today!!!!
Pirate's birthday is Dec. 25th and Lizzie is Dec. 27th, so I planned their gifts. (Keira's birthday will be celebrated then too.)

So...I went to Petsmart. I bought the dogs rawhide gingermen treats, and a toys for each of them. They all need new Kongs, but Petsmart didn't have the correct size.

So...off to Target I went!

They had the right Kongs, but my oh my....I TOTALLY FORGOT I HAD BOUGHT THE PUPS THEIR TOYS ALREADY!!! And (OOPS!) BOUGHT THEM MORE!!!

Oh Tony????......I was a very, very bad girl
I just have to know -- how much does our government charge our soldiers for a pair of boots?
Army boots that are issued to soldiers when they get to the base are roughly about $75. Those are your considered your general 'basic' pair.

The ones Scott likes were about $120 a pair. They can range all the way up to about $200.... depending on what you want in them (i.e. different bottoms tractions, insoles/support, etc.) The cold weather boots are rather expensive.

I guess I should clarify that the military does give the soldiers a once a year 'clothing allowance' Scott gets about $260 every February. Granted that never covers all their items...

BUT HEY... It's a living!

zoe and einy
Most of our money is spent on the kids.

Hubby's Birthday is the first week in January so I have to do a bit more shopping.

I knew his Mouse connection went on his computer. I unplugged it to use in another machine for about an hour. When I plugged it back in.... nothing. So I had planned on getting him a wireless optical USB Mouse. I had just pulled into the Office Max parking lot yesterday when he called to tell me he bought himself a new mouse. He always does this to me. He tells me he wants something, sees it on sale and buys it himself.

I yelled at him the other day and told him that if he come home with anything he had asked for for X-mas he was going to be in BIG trouble.

I bought him those Kinoki Foot Pads, which he has been asking for and a couple of Movies. I also got him a CD writer for his computer, which I installed for him last week.

I was thinking about getting him a GPS for his Birthday, because he has been asking for a long time now. Luckily, I don't have to buy one. He received one as a present from his Bosses at his Christmas party last night. 8) Now I have to figure out what to get him for his Birthday.

I'm a bit upset that he his Bosses got him the GPS, because my presents suck compared to that and I am sure will be a let down.
Oh well
Elissa! Please tell us more about those Kinoki Foot Pads. I've been very curious about them!
My husband and I being married 20 years and living together before that don't buy each other much for Christmas . Just little things.

We got our Havanese puppy in Oct so we feel very blessed to have a puppy at Christmas. She is our real present to each other . "Slippers" is a scamp and in to everything so with 3 dogs all under 2 years we don't need a lot of presents under the tree for them to get into !

I got my husband :

2 DVD''S : The Bishop's Wife -His favourite xmas movie
A Chris Isaac Christmas- He's a big fan

2 CD'S- Across the Universe - the soundtrack from the movie
The Best of Chris Isaac

A stainless steele water bottle- very popular gift I notice

Some Mighty Putty - he saw it on tv and thought he could use it for all kinds of repairs.

I went to a Pet Fair , where a lot of rescues were selling toys etc so picked a new stuffed one for each dog to tear apart Christmas morning. They love their doggie advent calendar and have been sharing an organic peanut butter dog cookie everyday since Dec 1. This has been so much fun for them and us. I opened it carefullys o I can reuse it next year if I can't find it .

We bought a new travel trailer ( a 17 ft hybrid ) and our puppy plus a new flat screen tv for the trailer and my husband got some new electronic gizmo's for his office so we don't need much . We are grateful to be healthy and happy together . Plus lucky us we have no difficult relatives to have to spend Christmas with !!!!!!!!!!!

I will let you know after he uses them. I have heard that they don't work.
20/20 did a report. :? But some people swear by them and Billy wanted to try them.

I got them at Target which had them on sale for $8.95 for a package of 14, which usually cost $19.95. So I figured if they didn't work I wasn't out too much money.

I want to hear more about Slippers! What a cute name. Pictures, please! :D
I will try to post a pic of Slippers tomorrow night when my husband can help me. When you see her you will say oh how could a 6 lb , 7 month old puppy be a hurricane in our house. Ha ! She takes on all comers and plays with our big Standard Poodle as if she's the same size. So far she and our Sheltie have managed to almost knock the tree down at least 3 times because of their crazy playing. Havanese are extremely robust and sturdy. Not scared little lap dogs but holy terrors inside a tiny body. Buyer Beware (smile )
I thought I might like to have a Havanese in the future. I've done quite a bit of research into the breed. They seem to be great little dogs. :D I look forward to the pictures. 8)
I have a friend who raises Samoyeds (a different friend than the ones with Gabby) and she has one Havanese.
His name is Bear. 8O :D :D :D

He did weight pull with much more enthusiasm than her Sammies :D .

Oh, I got off work early and finally went Christmas shopping. I went for the practical - Todd is getting 2 new pairs of jeans and a pair of good tennis shoes. He needs both - badly!
We don't really exchange gifts for each other for holidays, but we do get each other a lot of surprise things throughout the year.

This year, he's considering Dexter (his chameleon), his Christmas gift. He got me a Canon Rebel XTi a couple of months ago so I'm considering that my Christmas gift. :-)
