Exercise first thing in morning?

Does anyone exercise first thing in the morning? I'm talking about getting up at 5am, brushing your teeth, and going straight into cardio. Sometimes I think I should do this, get it out of the way and not feel guilty about missing an exercise session, but then I think "that's crazy and I'll probaby die of a heart attack because I'm not awake yet."

This time of year I love exercising in the morning. I'm a runner, so it's easy to roll out of bed at 5am, throw on my clothes and go. It's so peaceful out, especially when snow is on the ground to help dampen the noise.
It's nice when I get home from work and have my run done with already. This time of year I feel so tired, and unmotivated, so running in the morning is ideal. And nothing wakes you up quicker than 0 degree wind hitting you in the face!
For years I'd roll out, into a swim suit, drive to the city pool and swim for up to 3 hours. Of course the drive did wake me up before I hit the water. I loved it! Wish I could get motivated to do that again!
I used to love exercising first thing in the morning.... gives you so much energy for the rest of your day, it's addictive.
I used to exercis first thing in the morning - I plan on starting again after the first of the year (assuming I get this asthma thing under control)

It is the best way to go and makes the whole day better.

my son still does it - gets up at 4:45 to be the first one at the gym (which is around the corner for him)
I am not a morning person so no I dont do anything @ 5am. I do walk the dog early after a couple cups of coffee, brush teeth, get warm clothes on.

I do check snow report @ 6am. Now if snow report is powder I can move and be ready in 5 minutes. But no point when the lifts dont open until 9 am so once again no reason to get excited.
I get up at 3:30, don't brush... just put on my gym shorts, sports bra, and get right on the treadmill. Been getting up at usually 4 a.m. since I was 18 to do that. Of course I've gone through short periods where I didn't, but not long ones. My husband has always thought I was nuts.

he may be right :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Ah Ha! Now we know why you can cook and eat the way you do.....and we were giving being Mum to a pack of animals, 2 and 4 pawed, all the credit.

Military taught you well.
Jo, I have to agree with Mr. J! You're nuts!

I am TOTALLY not a morning person. I've entertained recently the idea of getting up at 5 to go running so hubby will be home to take care of the baby, but I just can't do it.

My ideal time to work out is like 10am-ish or about 4pm-ish. Of course, my job tends to get in the way of that!

well heck, that would be my "ideal" time as well. you do what you got to do if you want to eat a dozen chocolate cookies. I surely don't do it for anything else. 8O

mr j just started p90x. It's an extreme work out that gets you looking like superman in 90 days. he said he's in phase 1 (staring at the box). when he gets to phase 3, he'll be in sweats and ready to go. I'm glad I spent the money to buy it for him for christmas (early b/c he saw it in the mail)
From a physical fitness standpoint, it doesn't matter what time of day you exercise.

If doing it first thing in the morning works for you...do it then. Just be sure to stretch well before you start.
i tried working out before work....but i have a hard time getting out of bed that early, especially when its cold!!

and i dont even have to get up that early.....330 am...are you nuts????

i got up at 6 am, at the gym around 620...work out till 745, get dressed and work by 845....

i hated bringing all of my stuff...clothes, towel, makeup, hairdryer..etc....

i do much better working out after work....515 till about 6...its shorter but i will do it more often just cause i dont have to rush!

im still cringing at all you FREAKS who get up that early....crazy, crazy, crazy....dont you know your bed is nice and comfy and warm??????

I totally agree, I hate getting up - and only do it because I need to go to work. Otherwise - forget it!
I get up at 5:10 (OK -my alarm rings at 5:10  ), I hit snooze at least once, and I leave for work by 6am.
I lay out my clothes the night before for 2 reasons - I can therefore sleep longer and I am too nonfunctional to pick anything at all out in the morning. I just stand and stare.......
You guys must all be a lot younger than me! Eons ago I used to get up early & walk in the morning before I got ready for work. Not anymore. Now I do some stretching exercises to keep "arthur" at bay for the day & any walking is done after work outside if the weather is decent (remember we are talking NE OH) or on the treadmill. Since I only work 1 mile from home & am usually done by 3PM or 4PM the afternoon schedule works better for me. :D
