has an actual picture of a puppy mill OES adult and pup. |

That's sooo sad. How can anyone treat animals that way?
That first picture is how Casey (Irish setter - not OES) looked when she first came in. She was sooo skinny and matted really bad. She was shaved down to her skin, medicated for all her flea bites, and she's still having a time putting weight on but at least she doesn't look malnourished now. She started out as a foster, but that lasted an entire 3 weeks before we decided she needed to be ours (bad foster parents we are). |

in the bottom right hand corner of the video player, click playlist Click on Dog Auction. The OES on the auction block is 1/3 of the way through (as the auctioneer notes, it's missing one eye). Click on IN Puppy Pipeline 2. Two puppy mill adult OES are shown 2/3 of the way through. pass it on (ok, it's NOT festive, but I think it's important to SEE the reality of the sheepies >we< love being actual victims / prisoners of this horrible process.) It can be tempting to 'get what you want' at 'a good price'... (mmm, have cake, eat it too Greenspan even said there is a tragic flaw with this ethos). For those of us who are motivated by warm fuzzies, little panda puppies and the warm giddy exuberant wiggly love of and for OES..., (esp the beginner, the 1st timer, the oesie newbie) ... I think it's important to get actual images of OES mill adults into the public mind. We've probably all seen the horrible effects puppy mills have on toy poodles, maltese, labradors, but it's crucial to have a puppymill OES breeding dog in mind when you're tempted by the black and white roly-poly pups. If anyone has / comes across images, video, or even text that is OES puppy mill-specific, please pass it on (PM me, if you wish). (& I do mean 'mill specific,' while BYBs aren't ideal, there are doubtless very well respected breeders that started breeding as a mere lark, then it became a calling. and thank you.) Much love to you all. May all of our dreams come true |
Thanks for the input.
So much for eating breakfast LOL Yesterday a rerun of OPRAH was about puppy mills. So much for dinner.LOL makes me love the people here on the forum more! |
Yes, everyone who talks about the dangers of puppy mills or back yard breeders need to give yourselves a pat on the back. Your input has probably put many byb's and puppy mills out of business. Keep putting the message out there and post about the dangers of buying from pet stores or byb's. I have a talk with everyone I know who is thinking about getting a pet. |
Right on, ella.
Talking is important, images can hit different nerves, I think. |
I can not believe how stupid and exceptinally lucky we were when we got Bella. The more hoertories I read the more I realize what a great dog we ended up with. The puppy mill people should all be subjected to their own abuse. |
For over a month I have been trying to talk a friend out of buying a puppy from a byb/puppy mill type place. I told her all the downfalls. I even talked her out it by supplying names of real breeders she was going to go with one of them and then she changed her mind because of the costs. She now wants to get the puppy from this dispicable place that is right down the road from my house. They breed so call designer dogs as well as the breed she wants. I even had her waiting until the dog show so she could hook up with someone there. It would be around the same time this puppy would be ready to be picked up. Its not born yet, due any day. How do you get through to people/???? Nothing I have said has worked. It did up until the puppy's cost came down. It just makes me |
Some people only learn by their own bad experience, so they just dont get it when you tell them.
If she cant hear you when you explain that the small saving she makes on buying the puppy will all disappear with the potential health issues etc. then all you can do is help out if and when it all turns to s--- down the track. Oh and bite your tongue and not say "I TOLD YOU SO!!!" |

If anything the cost should be a red flag - why is the cost less? Because the dog is probably poorly bred in unhealthy and inhumane conditions. why don't you show your friend the photos of these mills, it could possibly help change her mind. For the life of me I cannot understand the cruelty perpetrated against these helpless animals. Legislation should be introduced to outlaw puppy mills. |
Tell your friend she will end up paying more for the dog in vet bills and training bills. Those dogs have tons of problems! A reputable breeder's dog is more likely to be disease free. Her dog could have UTI's, thyroid, arthritis, CHD, etc...Or tell her to just go to the Humane society. Those are dogs from BYB's and they are a lot cheaper. |
